Josh Hurst

Josh Hurst Don't mean to sound like a dick here, but when were these pages last updated? It currently says that they were updated 7 hours ago, but they have had the same info for well over a week now.

Ian Volante

Ian Volante Josh, wait for the new hardware, I believe that the updated stats will be pissing onto here as if excreted by a racehorse on Sambuca.

Josh Hurst

Josh Hurst Nice. My patience will be rewarded it seems.

Josh Hurst

Josh Hurst Richard Everley, where did you come from on this list? Above a couple of series champs. Nice one.

Josh Hurst

Josh Hurst Does this table include other variants and languages? I always thought it was just standard English 9 letter rounds. I'm just puzzled by Innis' position here, and trying to think what may have caused it.

Josh Hurst

Josh Hurst My inactivity is making my stats look great :)

Quinn James

Quinn James I think it's everything except custom games. I think.

Charlie Reams

Charlie Reams Coming rather late to the party, but it's all English games, standard variant, with 30 seconds per round. I will improve the table caption.

Quinn James

Quinn James I guess "English" must include CSW, as that's all I've been playing.

Charlie Reams

Charlie Reams My bad, it actually wasn't filtered by language. Now it is.

Mark D

Mark D Whatever you just did gained Innis 11%.

Josh Hurst

Josh Hurst Wow... everyone else has been put well and truly in their place.

Jon O'Neill

Jon O'Neill Ditto?

Jonathan Wynn

Jonathan Wynn Good times, managed to go up 3 places in the last hour without actually playing any games. Im coming for you Croy!!!!

Mark D

Mark D Of all the Apterous lists I want to top, this is the one. That final five percent^ is a BITCH though.

Josh Hurst

Josh Hurst Aye, definitely the Holy Grail of Apterousness.

Josh Hurst

Josh Hurst I did it once, but only because of an error which made Innis' score about 10% lower than it should have been when he was playing French a lot.

Jonathan Wynn

Jonathan Wynn On the one hand pleased to finally crack this list, on the other hand pretty disappointed when I realise how much better than me everyone else in the list is than me, and subsequently conclude that I must be absolutely SHOCKING at numbers by comparison.

Josh Hurst

Josh Hurst Glen Webb- 88.6%.. you beast!

David Barnard

David Barnard +1

Callum Todd

Callum Todd Very nice Glen, well done.

Dylan Taylor

Dylan Taylor That's 186 letters rounds maxed. Awesome stuff, Glen!

Glen Webb

Glen Webb Cheers guys, feel a bit of afraud though being on top here having only played 15 games!!!!

Jon O'Neill

Jon O'Neill There's a minimum rounds limit for a reason and you've exceeded it, so no need to feel like a fraud. It does raise an interesting question though - how many rounds do you have to play before your % is a true reflection of your actual ability?

Gevin Chapwell

Gevin Chapwell I don't think any number will tell you. People play Apterous in all sorts of states of mind and at various levels of tiredness etc. and all of this is included. So it will always be an underestimate of your ability (assuming enough rounds are played). Someone could look into stats, but I'd be willing to bet money that on this page http://www.apterous.org/statland.php?section=top_players_15r the 1 max game in x games underestimates how often it actually happens. But assuming a set probability of getting a max each round, you can do standard statistical tests. So it depends what you mean by a true reflection. You mean so that the decimal point is correct within a 95% confidence interval (or whatever the phrasing is)? That would be shitloads.

Gevin Chapwell

Gevin Chapwell I've just been over to Wolfram Alpha http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=binomial+calculator&a=FSelect_**BinomialProbabilities-.dflt-&f2=1000000*2&f=BinomialProbabilities.n%5Cu005f1000000*2&f3=0.85&f=BinomialProbabilities.p%5Cu005f0.85&f4=849500*2&f=BinomialProbabilities.l_849500*2&f5=850500*2&f=BinomialProbabilities.r_850500*2&a=*FVarOpt.1-_***BinomialProbabilities.l-.*BinomialProbabilities.r--.***BinomialProbabilities.x---.*-- and if you have a probability of 0.85 of getting a max (so a top player), and you play 2,000,000 rounds, then the probability of getting under 84.95% maxes or over 85.05% is just under 5%, so that's a decent statistical significance level. 2 million rounds.

Gevin Chapwell

Gevin Chapwell OK, so that didn't work. But 2 million rounds for 5% significance level at 85% of max.

Gevin Chapwell

Gevin Chapwell Sorry for breaking the page for everyone.

David Barnard

David Barnard Gevin Gevin Gevin, you have just succeeded in mentally breaking me with those figures

Adam Gillard

Adam Gillard Conor and Dan smashing it up!

David Barnard

David Barnard 96.3 for Conor, this is getting truly ridiculous

Jack Hurst

Jack Hurst I have 10 players set as rival on apterous. All of them are in the top 12 here.

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre The key question here, is which 2 fail to bother you?

Andy Platt

Andy Platt I'm guessing one is Jack Hurst

Jack Hurst

Jack Hurst You should be able to guess one of them...

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre LMAO... oops. OK - so which one fails to bother you xD

Adam Gillard

Adam Gillard I like how Conor averages over 20 rounds per game.

Dan McColm

Dan McColm Mocktoruns?

Ben Wilson

Ben Wilson Jesus. H. Christ.

David Barnard

David Barnard Ohmyfuckinggod

David Barnard

David Barnard Conor on 98.4%

James Bailes

James Bailes Incredible standards .

David Barnard

David Barnard omg Conor

Tracey Mills

Tracey Mills Blimey Conor :)

Barry Bridger

Barry Bridger Percentages are plummeting!

David Barnard

David Barnard They'll soon go up again when everyone knows the new words

Transude Transude

Transude Transude soon might have been a tad optimistic DB!

Gevin Chapwell

Gevin Chapwell Rob Foster is 9.9% clear at the top!

Gevin Chapwell

Gevin Chapwell It's now 12.1% - 80.8 v 68.7.

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre Gev a bit lax in pointing out it's now 13.1

Gevin Chapwell

Gevin Chapwell I did have a look at this the other day actually. But yes, very impressive.

Gevin Chapwell

Gevin Chapwell And up to 87.5% as well, so quite a big increase on that front.

Gevin Chapwell

Gevin Chapwell After a bit of an Apterous holiday, Rob is back and well clear at 86.1% v 71.5% for second place.

Philip Aston

Philip Aston This leaderboard makes me cry. :_(

Elliott Mellor Don't cry, Rob deserves his first place.

16 Jan 2021: With a ludicrously expanded dictionary, Rob Foster achieves a letter max rate of over 95%

Josh Hurst

Josh Hurst Interesting to see that since Gevin's comment 2.5 years ago, 71.5% (2nd place back then) wouldn't even get you in the top 10 now! Standards are insanely high right now.

Josh Hurst

Josh Hurst For posterity - #25 on 67.3%, #10 on 76.5%. We have collectively come a very long way since Gevin's update (see above) in 2018.

Gevin Chapwell

Gevin Chapwell While we're here: Rob on 91.8%, Ahmed on 89.6%, Jack W on 89.3% and Sam CL on 85.0%. No-one else above 80. Ahmed definitely up in the elite group now with Rob, Jack W and Conor.
