Notes from the organizer: Adam L and Stu H continue to set the pace as the table takes shape, with Adam 8 points ahead of Stu on 261 points.
Interestingly, they are followed by a 5 strong chasing pack whose names all begin with the letter M (Miriam, Mike, Mark, Matthew and Marcus). I’m not sure if that means anything, but feels like it might do in a tournament such as this.
Elsewhere, Florence’s chances of retaining her title are now wafer thin after two early ends to her opening two rounds. Perennial contender Tom C has also left himself some catching up to do. With Matthew T yet to play, all eyes will be on him to see how he starts his bid to roll back to the glory days of 2023.

We now move away from linking words with the focus in R3 being words containing consecutive repeated letters. It’s also an upgrade in format to a Hypertouch Letter Attack.
The aim of this round is to declare words containing consecutive repeated letters. In any round where you declare a word using these, your score for that round counts towards your total. If you fail to declare a double letter word, that round counts for nothing.
IMPORTANT - there’s no crashing out early in this round, so you can keep scoring even if you fail to meet the criteria above in a round i.e. don’t give up if you dud a round!
For example:
BEEP would score 4 points.
HAMMER would score 6 points.
SUMMATION gets you 9 points
NOTHING scores you nothing but it DOESN’T end your game.
There are extra points on offer again, but this time it’s a multiplier rather than a bonus. If you manage to declare a word with either two instances of double letters, or three - your score for that word will be doubled or tripled respectively. I’m unaware of any words that have 4 x double letters.
Examples:
DEEPNESS would score you 16 points.
BOOKKEEPER would score you a cool 30 points
All-time record holder here is Ian Volante with a score of 189.
Good luck!
