![]() | Martin Hurst This is great Dave - we are spoiled by some amazing tournaments on Apterous and this is very much one of them. |

![]() | Dave Kempshall Glad to hear you're enjoying Martin. Given the number of entries appears to be growing each year, I am considering a 2nd one during the summer that removes the bombing out element so people don't lose interest by having a couple of duff early rounds (I think Fiona previously suggested that) |
![]() | Fiona T yeah a penalty would work well I think |
![]() | Dan Southwell Went better than round 7B.. :) |
![]() | Stu Harkness Only two 7 letter words available there, and one ZJX overall.
|
![]() | Sean D Got J Z Q J in the last 5 rounds.... immediately after I'd decided to junk this round, lol |
Notes from the organizer: We enter the final two rounds of 2025 with the tournament still very much up for grabs. Adam has now got a tiny bit of daylight between himself Stu and Miriam, but it’s still very tight. Tom and Mike now look like the only two challengers from the chasing pack with a chance of victory (aside from those yet to start) but both are likely to require a slip-up from Adam.

Round 9 is a Junior LA and rewards your scrabble ability. Your score for each round will be total each word would score in Scrabble rather than Apterous (we’ll be using the usual dictionary as CSW isn’t available in this format in tournaments - and cross-checking the CSW dictionary for marking purposes is not something I have the time to do).
No bombing out, no minimum word length - just play each round as you find it and, if you score points, they will all contribute.
Some example scores:
JINX would be worth 18 (J - 8, I, - 1, N - 1, X - 8) as opposed to 4.
QUAIL gets you 14 (Q - 10, U - 1, A - 1, I - 1, L - 1), not 5.
Any 7 letter words will be treated as a DOUBLE WORD score rather than getting the customary scrabble 50 bonus points in an effort to ensure this round doesn’t overshadow the rest of the tournament scoring-wise.
Bonuses appear in the form of scrabble multiplier ‘squares’ in four rounds…
ROUND 5 = Double letter score on the 2rd letter of your word
ROUND 10 = Double letter on the 3rd letter of your word
ROUND 15 = Triple letter score on the 4th letter of your word
ROUND 20 = Triple letter score on the 5th letter of your word
GL!
PS - I have decided to now let all of rounds 1-9 sit until 30th November with a hard deadline. I will then put round 10 live from Dec 1st - 4th. This will ensure we enter the final round knowing all scores and positions.
Ran from: 25 – 30 November 2025. Format: Junior Letters Attack. Matches: One-off. Approved.
Fixtures: 49. Completed: 46.
Key. Green: winner. Red: loser. Grey: tie. (Stripes: provisional, match in progress.)
