![]() | Dave Kempshall Sorry, PULP is a mistake Mike. Palindrome can be the same, so you could POOP every round for 20 points if you wanted. |

![]() | Adam Latchford To give hope to the chasing pack- I've had two years at this one and bombed out almost immediately both times. I am poop at it |
![]() | Dan Southwell Quite pleased with my effort! Gotta admit R17 was a complete guess though. :) |
![]() | Sean D That was horrible. I'd propose that in future runnings the palindrome bonus should be 2 points. As it stands there's no point in looking for a slightly shorter palindrome for a bonus, I think a 5 letter palindrome being more valuable than a 6 letter non-palindrome would add an extra dimension |
![]() | Jon Stammers Hmmm... take absolutely no risks at all I guess is the lesson there!! :( |
![]() | Richard Decker Well that will teach me to not try and rush through tournament rounds in an opera dressing room - bombed first round |
Notes from the organizer: Adam L, Miriam N and Stu H continue to lead the way with the lead flip-flopping as they progress through their rounds.
Behind them, Mike L, Tom C, Marcus H and Matthew B are now all in contention though. Our 2023 champion Matthew T, is still yet to begin.
This round may see some lower game scores as the aim is to declare words that begin and end with the same letter. As a result, we return to Touchdown.
A minimum word length of 4 is in place, so declarations of A or AA or BOB or any 1, 2 or 3 letter word would end your scoring.
NOUN is good, as is DEBATED. RAINING is bad, as is BAD (GOOD is also bad).
Your game score will continue until you declare a word failing to meet this criteria, declare an invalid word or fail to declare a word at all.
A 1 point bonus will be on offer for every valid palindrome you declare whilst your scoring is active, so there are an unlikely 20 bonus points on offer here.
Mike Lee’s 2024 score of 124 is our current all-time record.
Example game:
NEON
WILLOW
GOING
POOP (bonus)
DUCKED
CIVIC (bonus)
ROTOR (bonus)
FLUFF
PULP (bonus)
TAUGHT
SERVICES
BIB (Game over, 3 letter word)
Game score = 62 (58 + 4 bonus)
Best of luck everyone!
