Ravi Choudhary

Ravi Choudhary Would like to go for S-M-S please, if permissable.

Elwin Carlos

Elwin Carlos S-S-M for me please Trevor :)

Trevor Potts

Trevor Potts deadline day!

apologies for the Canadian GP qualifying games not going up yesterday, I have been insanely busy recently and haven't found time for upkeep.

I realise we've had a few challenges recently in this tourney with rules and engagement, etc, so I'm open to our drivers' feelings on how the tourney is going so far. We're only a few weeks away from the mid-season break so this is a good time for us to take stock and see how things are going. Would you like to see the tourney change in some way? Do you feel it has run its course?

Mark Jeary-Fairbairn

Mark Jeary-Fairbairn I'm really enjoying this Trevor, and appreciate it's a huge amount of admin so don't mind waiting the odd day when life gets in the way of things. In terms of feedback, as someone that hasn't had a podium since the first week I think I'm mostly placing fairly based on my performance Thanks so much for all the work you put in to this.

Dan Southwell

Dan Southwell I echo Mark's comments Trevor - this is my favourite tourney at the mo! Keep it up!

Ravi Choudhary

Ravi Choudhary Was wondering, Trevor - will the tyre selections chosen by Elwin and myself be taken into consideration? We both got S-M-H instead. Plus, really enjoying this tourney. Wasn't sure at first due to the length, but glad to be in it. Tyvm, T.

Dan Southwell

Dan Southwell I thought you could only select your starting tyre and the first change. Any subsequent pitstops would put you on Hards?

Fi Thorne

Fi Thorne I'm also really enjoying this tourney Trevor and appreciate your hard work. I enjoy looking at the grids and as a bonus it has improved my conundrum skills!

Dave Kempshall

Dave Kempshall Also really enjoying it Trevor, the level of detail is immense and love following the lap-by-lap to watch the action / jeopardy unfold. Also enjoying my team, Red Bull, sitting 2nd in the standings despite me contributing exactly 0 points towards that (thanks Chris). I do tend to get a bit confused when multiple sessions are on the go at once, but that's probably just me and I can't think of a way around that if you want to stick to the real-world schedule, which is a good thing.

Adam Latchford

Adam Latchford I think I struggle to understand what we're doing sometimes - and how the places are decided in the grand prix. I think if I understood f1 more at a technical basis I'd know more, so more my fault than anyone else. All I know on f1 is I love jarno trulli and hope he wins the title off fisichella

Thomas Carey

Thomas Carey yeah I think this works because you don't fully have to understand all the stuff to give it a bash (you can just go fast and pitstop around the things recommended) but it's there if you want to

Dan Spinks

Dan Spinks half the time I have no idea what's going on here but still enjoy it.
the one thing I would love to see if it's possible is a visualisation of the lap by lap. is that something easily done in excel? maybe converting the positions into a line graph? I imagine it might be but don't know, you're excel skills are way beyond mine.
for me that would be the cherry on the top of what's a pretty amazingly structured tourney

Matty Artell

Matty Artell I love it but I think T-Cap should be nerfed in the next patch, far too overpowered

Elwin Carlos

Elwin Carlos Quite simply, one of the best tourneys on Apto atm. Thanks for all your efforts Trevor!

Matty Artell

Matty Artell Actual feedback;

I have really enjoyed it, really well-run and lots of passion and effort has been put into it which is really cool!

I think the complicated mechanics are fine for everyone because the actual core gameplay strategy is straightforward. I really enjoy the concept of qualifying, it's a fun way to play Countdown differently, and it suits my skillset which is a nice plus! The only thing that feels a little contrived to me personally is the pit stop, but I don't dislike it.

My personal experience has been that I've been doing well in the qualifying rounds, but in the race I buzz incorrectly 5 times, forget to do pit stops, etc. I think I have A tier top solve speed, but C-D tier word knowledge and solve consistency, so that makes sense! I have found it frustrating at times, but it's my own ineptitude that is the problem, not the game.

Matty Artell

Matty Artell If I had one suggestion, it would be more variety - more specifically, I'd like the inclusion of rounds with Nice CAs (and maybe even Nasty, and maaaybe even other variants rarely). Nice specifically would be very fun because there'll be a lot more very fast solving going on, and more players will be able to many/all cons, which would lean the results more into speed across the board. Maybe it could be split up by circuit or something? idk how real f1 works but there's probably something thematic

Tom Cappleman

Tom Cappleman I support all but one of Matty's comments!

Chris Hare

Chris Hare @ Dave Kempshall:

Don't worry about your failure to contribute towards Red Bull's points; you're driving for Sauber.

#TooManyDaves

Mark Jeary-Fairbairn

Mark Jeary-Fairbairn Could there perhaps be more straightforward jeopardy in the actual race in regard to incorrect answers - say five incorrect means a DQ or crash? That wouldn't stop people going for it but might make a difference occasionally.

Ian Volante

Ian Volante I like this very much. The only thing is that I find it very difficult to find the results, especially for sessions that aren't the currently active one.

Tourney round: Formula Apterous World Championship 2025: 9. Spanish Grand Prix - RACE

<< 8. Monaco Grand Prix - RACE

Notes from the organizer: https://sites.google.com/view/formulaapterous/ for Rules, Standings, and links to spreadsheets for all sessions.

Specifically the spreadsheet for this race is https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-Nb3O346cyc7IfVyTDWLF5LuocrX5z0b8WkKEzwNruU/

After my little geographical mishap in qualifying, I can assure you we are in Catalunya for the Spanish Grand Prix now.

There's been our second technical specification of the season due to some gremlins with the overtaking calculations. The new method vastly increases the 'field spread' phenomenon which makes track position much more important than it has been so far. The longer you spend down the order the harder it will be to make gains on the pack ahead.

This puts more onus on strategy too, including the timing of pit stops as overcuts and undercuts may now make a difference in track position. The default strategy is still Soft-Medium in this dry race and the recommended lap is still lap 8, but now is as good a time as any to experiment so as ever please let me know BEFORE you play your race game if you want to use a different strategy.

We have our second race in a row with an Aston Martin polesitter in Formula Apterous, and having had no pole positions in the first 7 events of the season Aston Martin now are the first team in FA to have had both drivers on pole! Can Florence take advantage of the new field spread mechanic to drive off into the sunset? In FD, Steven takes his second pole of the season.

Back to just one pit stop required for the rest of the season now! Good luck all.

Ran from: 25 May – 1 June 2025. Format: Conundrum Attack. Matches: One-off. Approved.
