Notes from the organizer: Whether you plan to get really good one day, or are just along for the ride, or don’t know yet because you’re relatively new to the site, the Apterous Vase is for you! (Although I strongly recommend getting to grips with entering the numbers first.)

The Vase is simply a tournament for those without the superhuman brain capacity of a regular tourney champion. In clearer terms: ——for anyone who is on the Pro Ranks table and is ranked 76th or lower——, you’re free to sign up*.

Since it’s the first one, I don’t expect too many people to apply, so if there are qualifiers at all, it’ll be 2 rounds max: a 3-game qualifying round, and a playoff, if necessary, for the best performing losers. After that, the group stage will duly go down, with a best-of-3 knockout stage, concluding with a best-of-5 final to decide the first Apterous Vase champion :D The highest-ranked players (ideally give-or-take 1/4 of the players in the groups but will depend on numbers) will get a bye straight past the qualifiers. If I run this again, and I certainly hope to, it’ll be the previous edition's winner as well.

*It is a wee bit more complicated than that, I'm afraid. I've put in measures to prevent a higher ranked player fixing it so that they can compete e.g. your rating needs to be below 1500 as well. If you're unsure whether you'd make the cut, the full entry rules are laid out on the spreadsheet.
