Mike Lee Dave, is this play each other once or twice?
Dave Kempshall Just the once.
Dave Kempshall And the first person mathematically assured of a place in Qatar is Andres S - well done. Get your hotel booked as they are massively under resourced.
Andres S. As long as it has continental breakfast, we're good
Dave Kempshall Continental breakfast can be ordered for an additional $199 per day.
Andres S. Sausage rolls and waffles it is then
Dave Kempshall Half of the qualifying games have now been played. Nice progress.
Dave Kempshall Last day guys - still a few outstanding games to get played, although appreciate 2 groups are affected by one person having not logged on in a long time (or played any of their games). Thankfully neither has a huge impact on the outcome of the group.
Dave Kempshall Qualifying is now finished with a few unplayed games, which I've adjudicated. Cheers for playing. I'll be trying to get the team allocation draw done tonight on Apto chat at around 8:30pm if anyone wants to follow which nation they'll be representing.

Tom Cappleman That's a strong Pot 3 you've got there
Dave Kempshall Indeed. A few 'upsets' with group winners / runners-up. Sadly, I became the only person with 6 points to miss out in a tough group. More time for admin though ;)
Andy SC I was the San Marino of this
Stu Harkness Aye it's not often teams get eliminated on 6pts...
Andres S. Still enjoying that continental breakfast, who wants sausages? |
Notes from the organizer: Thanks everyone for entering. So qualifying is contested between a reasonably straightforward 65 entrants.
We’ll have 16 groups (15 of 4 teams and 1 of 5 teams). Each group plays each other once in a round robin and the top two teams in each group will advance to the Qatar World Cup Finals 2022.
The draw has been done with people falling into either Seed 1, 2, 3 or 4 pots depending on their ratings taken at 13:30 on 25th September.
It’s Champions League format (11-rounder) throughout with goals only scored for winning a round with a MAX (for clarity, if numbers are impossible then whoever was closest (within 5 or 10) gets a goal.
Normal football rules apply: 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a defeat.
Here’s a summary of the tie-break rules for the group stages for teams finishing on the same amount of points:
1. Overall goal difference
2. Overall goals scored
3. Points matches between tied teams
4. Goal difference in matches between tied teams
5. Goals scored in matches between tied teams
6. If all of the above fails to separate teams, then a penalty shootout (5 rounder) will be played to decide on who qualifies / tops the group.
Any unplayed games will be allocated as a 0-0 draw unless someone has clearly tried to play the fixture more than their opponent, so please include me on Aptomails trying to arrange matches nearing the deadline. All non-played game result awarding will be done at my discretion to maintain the integrity of the tournament.
The qualifying group draw and tournament tracker can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oVnVgawrY1Q-i2T7CJYsWT7tXk6bA9Ts/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=109908957985244915222&rtpof=true&sd=true
NB - in the finals, there will be 8 seeded teams. These will be the top 8 rated players who won their qualifying group. These teams will be allocated one of the following nations: Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, England, France, Netherlands, Portugal & Spain.
All other qualifiers will be randomly assigned a nation (if I qualify I will, naturally, take on the host nation of Qatar - unless we have the unlikely event of me being seeded).
Good luck! Any questions, please just comment or PM me.
