Bobby D

Bobby D For clarity, what happens when in the first round both players declare the same max? Is the move counted for only P2 or for both players?

Fiona T

Fiona T Only for the person who declared 2nd - see round 7 of the sample game

Fiona T

Fiona T Note - this was intended to run for a month - deadline for this round is 30 September not 30 October!

Matthew Tassier

Matthew Tassier How will ties on number of wins be split in the group table?

Fiona T A very good question... After some deliberation, I think we'll go with total number of pieces "home" for the players in the tie, if still a tie then the H2H result between the tied players.

Fiona T

Fiona T Great work guys, just two games left to play. You have one week left to get them done! Thank you

Fiona T

Fiona T Just a few days left for the final game - Ronan has already qualified, but we have several players in Group 2 on 2 wins, so all to play for!

Fiona T

Fiona T Round 1 is concluded and we have our final 8!

Group 1: Bobby D and Steven Grady
Group 2: Ronan M Higginson and Dave Robjohns (see below)

Group 3: Hazel Drury and Mike Lee

Group 4: George Armstrong and Johnny Canuck

Well done, and thank you to everyone for playing and following along with the overly-complicated rules!

Fiona T

Fiona T In group 2, we had 3 players on 2 wins. As per above, the tie-break is number of pieces home. To clarify, a piece is home if it is home before your opponent wins outright. So if your opponent gets 4 pieces home, the game is over. If neither player gets 4 pieces home, then all pieces home in the 20 rounds count. For the three tied players, I make it

Tom
v Matthew 3
v Stu 3
v Dave 1
v Ronan 2

Stu
v Tom 3
v Ronan 0
v Matthew 3
v Dave 4

Dave

v Tom 3
v Ronan 3
v Matthew 3
v Stu 2

So Dave takes it with 11 pieces home - well played!

Notes from the organizer: For the first round of the competition, we're split into four groups. We'll play everyone in our group and the top two from each group will go through to the knockout stage - Good luck!

Reminder of the rules -

The aim is to get 4 pieces home.

A piece is home after three successful moves.

So to get all 4 pieces home you need 12 successful moves.

Rules -

You can only move one piece at a time.

To start a piece moving you need a max word (equivalent to throwing a 6).
The piece continues to move as long as you continue to score.

After 3 successful moves (a max word and any two other scoring words) the piece is home. You will then need another max word to start your next piece moving.

If, on your pick, your opponent declares the same word as you this is equivalent to them landing on you, and your piece is sent back to the start. i.e. you will need a max word (throw a 6) then two other scoring words to get that piece home. Note that the turn will still count as a move for your opponent if they have a piece in play.

The winner is first to get their four pieces home. In the event that neither player manages this, the winner will be the player with the most pieces home. If this is still a tie, then the winner will be the player who was first to get their last piece home, if still a tie, then the player with the highest score.

You will be playing a Nice LA against human players. Exact format will be decided depending on number of players.

Have fun!
