Tourney round: CountTown: Sign-Ups

Sign Ups Proper >>

Notes from the organizer: Hopefully we won't divide any opinions here... Making a play on words on Countdown, we've a simple premise to this tourney: you'll only score points if the valid words you declare are also the name of towns, cities or villages in the UK.

In the opening round, all players will get three Hypertouch Letters Attacks against Prune to rack up as big a combined score as possible. The top 8 players will advance to a Round Robin stage playing each other once, with rankings to be determined by wins then points after adjudication. (In the event that a game finishes level after adjudication it will be awarded as half a win). The top 2 will then play in a one game Grand Final to see who knows both their British geography and their Countdown dictionary.

A few technicalities to run over:

- Towns that are known by a short form name like Hull will be score points, despite the full name being Kingston-Upon-Hull.
- Words that form part of a town name that isn't commonly shortened such as the Castle in Barnard Castle will NOT score points.
- Words must be spelt correctly. Pool is valid in Countdown, but will NOT score points as Poole is the correct spelling of the town.

Sign ups will be open for two weeks, and players will then have two weeks after that for the first round of games.
