Tom Cappleman

Tom Cappleman Looks like you're aiming for about 10 rounds, which is enough that scheduling 2 rounds at a time would give decent results. Then you can give 2 weeks to get 2 games played, which is likely to work better, especially with Christmas in the middle. Or maybe switch down to 1 game at a time for the last few, to get the most accuracy at the end.

Tourney round: Apto-Chess Championship: Grand Swiss Tournament: Sign-Ups

<< Chess World Cup: Final + Third-Place Match (I promise) | Grand Swiss Tournament: Round 1 >>

Notes from the organizer: *If you took part in the Chess World Cup tourney, you don't need to sign up here*

So it's only taken the best part of 5 months, but the first phase of the Apto-Chess Championship is on the brink of escaping whatever is this website's equivalent of development hell. We've had one big straight knockout tourney, next comes the "Grand Swiss Tournament". (The format's still "Champions League" – LNLLNLLNLNC – just so yous know.)

It basically works the same as CoLin: everybody starts with one game against a random opponent. From then on, the players only play somebody else with the same amount of wins (unless there's an odd number or something). After a set number of rounds have been played, the player with the most wins... um, wins. The amount of games played'll vary depending on how many people make the conscious decision to jump on this near-collapsing bandwagon, but if I give yous one week for each round, then in the best case scenario we shouldn't go past the end of January.

The deadlines will have to be strict, by the way, because the fixtures are only scheduled once the previous round ends, so both you and I will have to be on the ball. But if we get them all played quick, then we'll be saving a good few days, so check yer feeds every Monday (from the 15th).

I don't think I'll be holding a sign-up round anywhere later in this tourney, so click now or forever hold your mice(?)!

Ran from: 30 October – 14 November 2021. Format: Champions League. Matches: One-off. Approved.
