Andy SC

Andy SC Good to here, Piaras. Would you not be open to allowing more entries in this time around if there is a greater interest of 16?

Andy SC

Andy SC And also to add - with regards to the 1 point deduction, would this be for both players or just they one that makes the least amount of effort?

Piaras M Carney

Piaras M Carney I would allow more entries, but I've heard that it's a bit difficult to run, so I'll stick to 2 divisions for now, maybe 3 if there's about 40 applicants. I'll definitely extend the league for the next cycle, though, should there be any more interest, which I'm sure there will be. As for the point deduction system, it will be for both players. Should this cause any problems, I will try and devise a new one, or try and make the current one a bit more thorough, such as monitoring when the players were last seen and things like that. If I get a genuinely good excuse (and I mean really good, since this thing will probably be on from about November to January/February), no points will be deducted, but since that level of excuse constitutes having both arms broken for the full tournament, I'm confident it will never happen.

Piaras M Carney

Piaras M Carney *Obviously I will accept other equally good excuses

Marcus Hares

Marcus Hares I would suggest that it's a bit harsh to deduct a point for an unplayed game from a player who has made every effort to get it played? Imagine if you needed those 3pts to get promoted or to save yourself from demotion and weren't able to get the chance because of another player's inactivity.

Marcus Hares

Marcus Hares Of course, if neither player has made an effort to play, and I believe this was a big problem before, then by all means deduct from both players!

Andy SC

Andy SC Aye fully agree with Marcus, it is harsh deducting a player that at least makes an effort.

Piaras M Carney

Piaras M Carney I suppose that is true. I will both monitor players' activity on the site and they could aptomail me if their opponent is not making an effort and they are. I could then remind said opponent. Or do you think I should just scrap that idea altogether?

Andy SC

Andy SC Deducting points from players that make no effort to arrange a game is a good idea. I would also encourage them to use aptomail and include you.

Piaras M Carney

Piaras M Carney Given that there have been 6 applicants in the last 15 minutes, I think it would be wise to say there is now no limit for players.

Anthony Endsor

Anthony Endsor I don't agree with deducting a point from BOTH players if a game is unplayed. The normal way to decide which player to deduct from would be to have yourself included in all aptomails between the players. That way you can easily work out who is at fault. Otherwise you're just opening the door for someone to deliberately not play a game so the innocent player also loses a point.

Piaras M Carney

Piaras M Carney As above:

I will both monitor players' activity on the site and they could aptomail me if their opponent is not making an effort and they are. I could then remind said opponent.

Piaras M Carney

Piaras M Carney I might as well add that the sign-ups close at 8:30 PM on Thursday 01/11/18, because I've just noticed that I haven't stated a time for this literally anywhere.

Tourney round: The Apto-Tude League: Cycle 27: Sign-Up Page

Cycle 27 >>

Notes from the organizer: It's back!

I thought I'd restart the League after conversing with some that had previously ran it, and I thought I'd give it a go myself, although this might not be a regular thing due to the fact that most people agreed it was pretty laborious. So if there's no 28th Cycle (at least from me) now you all know why.

Now, I've decided to run a maximum of 2 divisions of 8 players, so if there are any more applicants, I will extend the league for the next cycle (again, if there is one). First come, first served, so please don't mash your respective keyboards in frustration if you are not successful in applying on time.

For the purposes of the next paragraph, a win is 3 points, a draw is 1, a loss is 0.
I've heard unplayed games was a big issue in the past, so I've decided to crack down on it by deducting 1 point for every unplayed game at the end of the cycle. If a player has not played 5 games come the end of the cycle, they will be relegated regardless of their position. If you leave 5 games unplayed consistently for 3 cycles, you will be withdrawn from the league and you will have to sign up again should any future cycle take place. If any of you think this is too harsh or too lenient, feel free to comment with your own suggestion and I'll decide which one to use for the League, if there are any I like.

Now, as I've never held a tournament before, my organisation might be a little shaky, but I'll try to get it ironed out if there is another cycle.

Good luck, all who sign up!
