Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre Right, 6 people have been booted out due to lack of gameplaying.

Barry French has been reinstated but demoted to division 8.

Lauren Hamer and David Barnard confirmed entry in the chat room.

We have 64 again! Let's gooooooo!

Oli Moore

Oli Moore Could you put links for the tables up please?

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre Thanks Andrew, very kind of you :)

Jen Steadman

Jen Steadman You haven't added the result of Mark v Martin to the division 2 table! A shame that game's been played from a neutral perspective, really, 'cause the current table suggests that any of the bottom 5 could still get relegated.
Still, from a non-neutral perspective - no relegation for me (I think) :D

Julie McCarthy

Julie McCarthy Looks like I'm bouncing back to division 6 :-(
Even if Jimmy remains at the bottom - unlikely, it's just he's only played 2 of his games - Jordan would have to lose his last game with less than 42 points to end up below me

Ian Volante

Ian Volante Ooh, that's a surprise. That means I need to beat Jimmy and score 80 to have a chance of going up.

Martin Long

Martin Long How many people get promoted/relegated from each group?

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre 2, Martin

Martin Long

Martin Long I think I'm relegated then! Division 3 here I come! :D

Julian Joss

Julian Joss Keep the faith Mart, 50 says you will stay up!:)

Ian Volante

Ian Volante Div 5 has been an excellent battle. Confirmed that I need to beat Jimmy by 80 to get second, we just need to be on at the same time...

Matthew Tassier

Matthew Tassier Even if you beat Jimmy he could still pip you for 2nd winning his other two matches. On the other hand you need to score 42 to be absolutely safe from relegation!

Jimmy Porter

Jimmy Porter Not likely, Matthew! Sorry for not being on too often, can't be helped. FWIW I should be online fairly regularly this weekend as I'm snowed in. Fingers crossed we'll cross paths. Apologies again

Ian Volante

Ian Volante I should be around in the morning and at times on Sunday. Next weekend not good, so it'd be great if we could play before then.

Matt Conway

Matt Conway Zarte, I played Edwin ages ago and it's not been recorded; I want to know if I've been promoted ot not :D

Julie McCarthy

Julie McCarthy Jimmy and Jordan's last game is against each other, so one of them has to win, so I'm defintely back in division 6 for the next round - ah well!

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre Guys, just 2 weeks to get your games played. This is your 2 week warning.

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison Can you slot me in for next run Zizzi? Could inspire me to play some more.

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre Sure 'ting Dublem.

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison Oh yeah, just noticed the Sign up button! Oops.

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre 1 week left you sexy, sexy people.

Matt Conway

Matt Conway *one man pitch invasion*

Heather Styles

Heather Styles I've just sent messages to Daniel Milward and Steve Balog to say we have until February 10th play our games...

Heather Styles

Heather Styles *to play

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre Heather, if they don't appear, you'll win those by default - I'm aware this one isn't you're unavailability, it's solely theirs

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre I've done the following things for games that haven't been played:

G1 - as all 4 players yet to play their last game, HAD played 6, this means I've marked both games left as a 0-0 draw.

G2 - All matches have been completed, nothing needed.

G3 - As above

G4 - As Above

G5 - As Above :D

G6 - Boo, this is a mess - players with the fewest games left to play have been awarded wins over the ones below, and this is progressive going down. Steve Balog and Daniel Milward have not played any games at all, and will be removed from the next cycle.

G7 - Urgh, the first time it's been controversial in the 3 cycles so far. Conor, SJ, and Horace have all been on frequently and so the fact the latter pair have played 6 and Conor only 5 means I have to award them walkovers. Oli gets a walkover against James Hall, and is therefore promoted above Conor...

G8 - The 3 incomplete games all include Barry French, and so 3 walkovers have been awarded against him.

Barry French

Barry French thats disgraceful as Ive tried to log on when possible and nobody has been on to complete games.

Barry French

Barry French Not like anybody made attempts to contact me either, I dont live on this site like a lot of you I dont automatically know when people play and dont...

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre You're under the same rules as everyone else, Barry. It's just as easy for you to send messages to unplayed opponents as it is for your opponent to. I'm not gonna get drawn into an argument about this, it's the same for everyone.

Dicky Boy

Dicky Boy barry i've been online for several hours in the evening almost every day for the past month and i haven't seen you either. Nor have you at any point tried to contact me to arrange a time to play

Rachael Moran

Rachael Moran APTOFIGHT!

Kevin Stoba

Kevin Stoba Does anyone want a hug?

Julie McCarthy

Julie McCarthy Sounds sensible to me, James. Can I also add that, in future, since the cycles are 6 weeks long, if players haven't managed to play all their games with 2 weeks left (or earlier if you prefer) it seems sensible to aptomail adding in as participants all their remaining opponents. Then, if any don't reply by a week to go, they can add Zarte as a participant in the thread, so he knows who's tried to play their matches.
This assumes Zarte doesn't mind a potential avalanche of aptomail! As it should only affect the unplayed matches, there should hopefully not be too many.

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre I was going to suggest exactly that, Julie.

Andrew Feist

Andrew Feist Weird -- you might think 2-5 would be relatively safe, but all six relegations in groups three through five were at 2-5. I think this means we're so equally matched it's all random! Yay!

Tom Rowell

Tom Rowell Where can you see the tables??

Marcus Hares

Marcus Hares Does anyone else think this is really unfair on Conor, who won all 5 of the games he played (including against the 2 players promoted ahead of him) - I understand this is a sticky situation Zarte and it's ultimately your call, and we have to stick by it, just seems extremely harsh

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre Marcus - I made it clear that if it wasn't blindingly obvious that one person was available more than the others, then it'd be based on who had played the more games - only if that was also even would the result be a 0-0 draw. I don't think anyone can deny that SJ and Horace have both been on frequently, and the only game that they hadn't played was against Conor. I can't change rules on the basis of somebody's standing in the league. If it was for 3rd or 4th in a division, no-one'd bat an eyelid, unfortunately this time it's changed the outcome of a promotion, but there's nothing that I can do about that. Rules are rules.

Matthew Tassier

Matthew Tassier I think Zarte has dealt with this perfectly equitably. It's not difficult to get your 7 games played in 6 weeks if you are keen to participate in the league. Judging against the player managing to play the least games seems eminently logical.

Marcus Hares

Marcus Hares Perhaps I was a bit quick to comment before looking at the details - seems that these players have clocked up well over 3,000 games between them since this cycle started so you'd expect them to have been on at some point at the same time to have played their matches. I think what I meant to say was it was disappointing for Conor, not unfair.

Barry French

Barry French I've tried my best to get on at all times of day and never has anyone been around. I tried my best to get them all completed. So basically I have to live my life on here just to not be treated differently.

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre You're just being obtuse now, Barry. We've all just said, no-one expects you to live on here, we expect however, for you to use the message service on the site. Just check it once a day. You're not being treated differently to anyone else, so quit with the persecution complex, cause frankly it's getting tedious. If you don't like the way I run my own tournament, don't play in it. Simple.

Rachael Moran

Rachael Moran I must say, I was waiting for ages for you to play our game, Barry. Then you left halfway through it, and it ended up getting lost in a server reset several days later. We got there in the end. I'm not complaining - it makes no odds to me - but you can't expect everyone else to wait for you, and you can't really argue with forfeiting your games.

Tom Rowell

Tom Rowell Well said Zarte and thanks for the links Andrew

Barry French

Barry French Zarte Almighty why are you so one eyed? Im not the only one who didnt message regarding our games. I dont give a shit about forfeiting what I do give a shit about is being made out to be the only one who never messages people.

All I can say is thank god my subscription runs out in april aint no way Im wasting another £20 to be made uncomfortable by the elitists and wannabes on this site

Graeme Cole

Graeme Cole Who made out you were the only one who didn't message people? Other players in the same situation have been awarded losses too.

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre Oh for goodness sake, I've had enough of you Barry, your tantrums border on troll-like. I will remove you from the tournament as you're clearly not happy in it, now please leave me alone.

Julie McCarthy

Julie McCarthy Barry, I ditched apterous, and indeed all things Countdown (it was becoming an obsession rather than a pastime), for over a year mid 2010 to mid 2011.
A sizeable break (not necessarily as long as a year) can help you get things into proper perspective,
If you do decide to leave apterous as well as the tourney, I trust I speak for all of us in that I wish you and your young family well, and hope you'll return sometime.
