Matthew Tassier In the case of tied scores in this round, the first player to complete his match will be awarded the higher seeding position.
Callum Todd nice idea | |
Sam Prouse lovin' it | |
Matthew Tassier Tom C-C is first to leap in, unfortunately probably without reading the rules! With rounds 9,10,12,13,15,16,19-26 disallowed, Tom scores 69.
Johnny Canuck After the fact for me now, but if your first use of a starting letter was on an invalid word, are subsequent uses treated as disallowed too?
Johnny Canuck (e.g., in Andy's game, will he be credited with 4 points for POUT, having previously used P on the invalid PUES?)
Matthew Tassier Yes, if you have already declared a word beginning with the letter, (whether it was valid or not), then the subsequent word is disallowed. Sorry, Andy.
Matthew Tassier With rounds 7 and 17 disallowed, Andy scores 91. Johnny sets a strong target with his 143.
Ian Volante My letters didn't play ball.
Matthew Tassier Unlucky, with rounds 23, 24 & 26 disallowed that leaves you on 115.
Ian Volante Felt like the disconnect I had didn't help - less chance of gettting the remaining letters I needed.
Matthew Tassier Round 22 disallowed for Callum leaving a score of 119, and a lesson learnt in round 23! Enough scored for 2nd place at the moment.
Zarte Siempre Damn you to hell, Tassier - this was on a list of my possibilities for Mole 8 :(
Matthew Tassier Sorry! With 26 rounds it was just asking for it.
Zarte Siempre I know! That's why it would have been a Mole task :P Stick to conventionals, you swine!!!
| |
Matthew Tassier :)
| |
Sam Prouse That was a lot tougher than imagined, but a very fun challenge
Matthew Tassier Glad you enjoyed it. Nothing to disallow from Sam or Bradley so the current standings are :
| |
Matthew Tassier With disallowed words in rounds 15, 18, 19 and 24 John is left with a score of 111 in 5th place.
John Beresford I wanted to give people a chance...... (cough)
Matthew Tassier Too sweet for your own good.
Ian Volante I think there's probably mileage in asking for this as a high-score format.
Jason Larsen i probably didn't do very well at this
Matthew Tassier It's a tricky challenge, Jason. With rounds 9, 12 and 21 disallowed you have 54 points and are currently 10th.
Matthew Tassier 5 disallowed rounds leave Christy with 74 whilst Matty (R11 disallowed) and Jamie make their ways up into the top 4 with tidy efforts.
| |
Adam Gillard Fun! | |
Matthew Tassier After disallowing round 24 Jack scores 117 points and slots into 6th place.
Matthew Tassier 125 points sees Adam having fun and moving into third place.
Matthew Tassier With nothing to disallow, Martin's 110 sees him sneak into the top 10.
Matthew Tassier Brilliant game from Thomas Cap. scoring in 25/26 rounds to go top of the tree.
| |
Matthew Tassier With round 9 disallowed 119 points gets me into 8th place.
Tom Cappleman Really looking forward to seeing how this works as player vs player. Tactical play's going to be very important.
Matthew Tassier Sean F and Elliott successfully move into the top 16 with no deductions necessary.
| |
Matthew Tassier A score of 134 from Frank leaves him looking safe up in 4th place.
Bradley Horrocks Oh well, fun tourney Matthew! I enjoyed the challenge
Matthew Tassier Thanks for taking part! Marcus's 135 does push Bradley out of the top 16 and he replaces Frank in 4th place.
Adam Gillard Just realised that A Beanstalk Challenge has the initial letters ABC. Nice.

Sam Prouse oh yeah.....
Matthew Tassier :)
| |
Matthew Tassier With rounds 7, 19 and 24 disallowed Sean D finishes on 110, one agonising point behind 16th place. John will remain in the final qualification spot unless we get a late entrant in the half an hour between now and me going to bed.
Sean D Ah, didn't realise you couldn't reuse a starting letter from an incorrect declaration #readtherules
Matthew Tassier Afraid so, Sean. With 25 minutes to spare Herbert sneaks in a late game scoring 129 (R13 disallowed) and grabbing a last 16 place.
|
Notes from the organizer: This is a Beanstalk tournament with a twist.
If you wish to score in every round of each 26 round game then you must declare a word starting with each of the 26 letters of the alphabet. So, every time you declare a word starting with the same letter as a word you declared in a previous round, the second use of the single starting letter will be treated as a disallowed word with scores adjusted after the game.
I recommend writing out the alphabet and crossing out the letters as you use them to start a word.
In this qualification round you will play against Prune, and the top 16 scorers will progress to a seeded knockout tournament. If there are less than 16 entrants then everyone will go through.
Hopefully you will find this an interesting tactical challenge!
