Matthew Tassier

Matthew Tassier A lot of decent scores there, and, despite missing round 1, an excellent 190 from Ben earns him the Strongest Link title and puts him very close to Chris on total tournament points.

Matthew Tassier

Matthew Tassier And it's the end of the road for three competitive players new to the tournament this year. Ciaran, Phil M and Tony you are the Weakest Links, Goodbye.

Tony Atkins

Tony Atkins Of course the problem here was the standard method involves working backwards which you can't do when having to click the answer in.

For my leaving speech see the last time I was bottom 2...

Elliott Mellor

Elliott Mellor You're possible downfall was possible picking 3l at all, surely anything that isn't 1l/2l is never going to be beneficial in instant? 1 and 2 large you can normally fluke the answer, the others you will have trouble doing so.

Elliott Mellor

Elliott Mellor *probably

Chris Butler

Chris Butler Na it differs from person to person. I picked all 3L and it saw me right. In last years comp I did every round in either 6S or 4L and did even better (https://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=1654946). Tony is used to 3L and I'm sure it was the right choice for him

Ben Andrews

Ben Andrews I can understand Elliott's scepticism, it may seem crazy to choose anything other than 1L initially! However, Tony maxes only about 0.5% less 3Ls than 1Ls when rounds are 30 seconds in length, so it's quite plausible that, especially if he was in a particular mindset that was better for 3L, it was the best choice.

Matthew Tassier

Matthew Tassier If you're strong at 3L and your opponent is picking it then I think it's a perfectly reasonable tactic.

Tourney round: Weakest Link Numbers Tournament 2017: Round 16 - Instant

<< Round 15 - Hypertouch | Round 17 - Nasty >>

Notes from the organizer: Round sixteen will be played in Instant format against Apterous Prime. No thinking time, it's straight to the input interface with every round being solvable. Prime once again likes 3 large numbers and will solve some and miss others. With only your exact solves counting Prime won't be costing you any points.
The THREE lowest scoring players in this round will leave the tournament. If there is a tie for lowest scores then margin of victory/defeat will be taken into account amongst tied players followed, if necessary, by total score in the tournament so far (see notes by matches).
Good luck!

Ran from: 3 – 16 March 2017. Format: Instant Numbers Attack. Matches: One-off. Approved.
