Callum Todd

Callum Todd Is there a rule on what scoring set-up we can use? So, will stepdown be okay, or does it have to be standard/gevin?

Callum Todd

Callum Todd Oh and does it have to be 30 seconds per round or can we give ourselves extra time?

Jamie M

Jamie M "Make sure you use the right scoring system for the variant though" - so use whatever scoring system the variant normally uses. Do the same for the round time too - as far as I know this is 10 for Instant (which I assume people won't use), 45 for Hyper Unlimited and 30 for everything else.

Callum Todd

Callum Todd So what about normal variant then, that can use different scoring systems, (gevin's delight uses gevin scoring, stepdown games use stepdown scoring, regular games use standard scoring), so can we just use either of those scoring systems?

Jamie M

Jamie M Ah ok, I see what you mean. I'll say Normal games have to be the Standard scoring system since that's the original scoring for the variant - a bit like how there are Normal formats with different round times but 30 seconds is the assumed time.

Jon Stitcher

Jon Stitcher 40.

Bit disappointed not to get 50 but SKITTED is a very common word where I live and will surely be in the dictionary soon enough

Thanks to everyone who played, the new one is M2 (slightly late) and it's on its way.

Tourney round: Revolver: Challenge M1 - Split

<< Challenge C1 - Buzz | Challenge L2 - Pancake >>

Notes from the organizer: Welcome to Revolver, what I hope will be an on-going set of Apterous challenges for you to try as much as you like. The idea is that I set a challenge once every five days, and that each one runs for 20 days so four challenges run at any time. This one is mixed-round, and the challenges will rotate through letters, numbers, conundrums and a mix of all three.

You can play whichever challenges you like; all you need to do is sign up to one on its round page and get started on it. Every challenge has an objective you need to complete, with extra points available depending on how you do it. These points then get converted into final scores as follows:

1st place: 100 points
2nd place: 80 points
3rd place: 70 points
All others: scaled between 20 and 60 points

The tournament has an overall leaderboard which is the total of all these final scores you've achieved.

So, here's the latest one, numbered M1 because it's mixed-round challenge #1.

Name: SPLIT
Objective: Score at least 40 points in each of letters, numbers and conundrums in a 15-round game of your choice.
Variant/format: Any variant (except Deepdown which is letters only) and any set of 15 rounds where it's actually possible to score 40 in each. Normally this is at least 4 numbers rounds, 4 conundrums and about 5 letters rounds. Five of each is a good starting point. Also, since these are likely to be custom games, feel free to give yourself the pick in as many rounds as you like.
Scoring: Whatever your highest score is out of the three. So if you get 42 in letters, 45 in numbers and 40 in conundrums, that's 45. Make sure you use the right scoring system for the variant though.

If you complete the challenge and want me to know about it, COMMENT ON THIS PAGE with a link to your game. If you better it, comment again and that will replace your previous game. After every few completions I'll put up a table of who's scored what.

Hopefully that's all clear, but if not let me know. Good luck everyone!

Ran from: 1 – 20 April 2014. Format: Masters. Matches: One-off. Approved.
