Notes from the organizer: Welcome to Apterous’ newest League based tournament - The Nations League. All games in the Nations League will be in the 5-rounder format (LNLNC) - all games will have no effect on ratings or Pro Ranks
The way the Nations League works will be quite similar to the UEFA Nations League. Here is a description of how the UEFA Nations League works for people that are not familiar with it:
1) The 54 national teams of UEFA are divided into 4-leagues - League A, B and C each featuring 16 teams and League D featuring 6-teams.
2) In Leagues A, B and C, teams are divided into 4-groups of 4-teams. In League D, teams are divided into 2-groups of 3-teams.
3) In Leagues A, B and C, each team plays 6-games within their group (each other team twice). In League D, each team plays 4-games within their group.
4) In League A, the winners and runners-up of each group advance to the ‘Finals’ to find out who the overall champion is. The finals consist of a Quarter Final, Semi Final and Final.
5) In League B, C and D, the group winners are promoted to a higher league. In League A and B, the teams that finish bottom of each group are relegated to a lower league.
6) Since League C has 4-groups and League D has 2-groups, the two lowest ranked League C teams (bottom of the group) are automatically relegated.
7) 3rd placed teams of League A face runners-up of League, 3rd placed teams of League B face runners-up of League C and the two best ranked 4th-placed teams of League C face the runners-up of League D over two legged ties. These matches decide what leagues these teams play in for the next cycle.
This tournament will be open to an unlimited number of players. The structure used will try and replicate the above as much as possible. Once I know how many players have signed-up, I’ll be able to come up with a clear structure but generally I'll be looking to include approximately 16-players per league. To start with, players will be divided into leagues based on their pro-ranks. New players will be able to join the Nations League before the start of a new cycle, however they will be required to start in the lowest league. Same goes for anybody that has to drop out of the league for whatever reason and joins in again for a future cycle.
