Martin Hurst

Martin Hurst Are we allowed to have the P45 word stored in our clipboard, as per this ticket? https://www.apterous.org/ticket_view.php?ticket=6895

Adam Latchford

Adam Latchford this + spanish letters are both massively punishing rounds, great to see them so early instead of later on :D

Sarah M

Sarah M Adios Amigos :) that's me out first 2 rounds :)

Jon Stammers

Jon Stammers No, come on Sarah! No sudden moves, you'll get through it fine!

Sarah M

Sarah M I might be able to blag a few Spanish words but there's no way I'll know any of them super long words a lot of you know :)

Adam Latchford

Adam Latchford its round 1, you'll almost certainly qualify to round 2 by simply playing your game if any other tournament in history is to go by :)

Tom B

Tom B tricky part is also beating velvet!

Ian Kinsella

Ian Kinsella I looked up the instructions for Spoilage before playing and the example given is ANTIDISESTABLISHMENTARIANISM. I thought that’ll defo be useful. Missed it in the first round and then couldn’t spell it properly in time in the last round lol.

Tom B

Tom B Reminds me of when I had to play against Florence in the Hunger games. I was casually hiding in the trees round after round, then simply needed to spell the 45 letter word once to safely progress. I transposed two letters and it never came up for me again hah

Ravi Choudhary

Ravi Choudhary For clarification - do you have to play one part immediately after playing the other?

Colin Thompson

Colin Thompson Andy, I went to a TB, my score should be 121

Sarah M

Sarah M Looks like the only word I knew in Spanish disco. I found both of these rounds very difficult. I did try but gave up so I'm sorry. There's no way I could say those really long words let alone spell them that a lot of you seem to know. I'm sorry for entering this tournament I didn't think it would be this difficult. I need to learn and not enter. Sorry again

Martin Hurst

Martin Hurst This is why this format shouldn't be used in tournaments like this. You'll have those that know what they are doing with the 45 letter word and others stored in clipboard/autocomplete whilst other with less experience completely bemused.

Adam Latchford

Adam Latchford can't justify having a people's choice variant where anybody can pick anything and then blocking certain variants. People were kicking off at some languages last year but the point is to pick something you're good at to survive or to just go wild. Can't block any variant just because people don't like it

Martin Hurst

Martin Hurst I get that, but I would say for this format it's more than "not liking it" - different people play the format with different morals (as evidenced by the ticket) - I don't think any other formats have such a grey area?

Adam Latchford

Adam Latchford It depends on the Grey area. I think I recall Robin kicking off about how unfair languages were last year on one of the rounds (despite them being the same fairness for others), berserk variants are inherently unfair to people who only use mobile or aren't super computer literate etc. Its different grey areas to spoilage and copy and paste lark but theyre still grey none the less. [I hate spoilage for the record but I back this tournament fully being able to have any variant]

Martin Hurst

Martin Hurst Languages are equal fairness for all so I agree no issue there. Fair point re Beserk - put that one in the dustbin too if it is inherently unfair :) Maybe if we aren't "banning" them we should be strongly suggest people think twice before nominating a variant where clear grey areas/unfairness exists?

Sarah M

Sarah M I didn't kick off I just found it very difficult and amazed that people can type such long words

Adam Latchford

Adam Latchford Nah wasn't saying you kicked off Sarah, we've had history in last year's tournament with random anger. Im telling you now you'll have survived by simply playing both and gaining any point. Next variants are a Latin 9 and a numbers attack which I guess is friendlier

Sarah M

Sarah M Thank you but I was stupid for entering this, I don't know any Latin and numbers I'm s**t at. I'm hoping everyone plays all their games tbh this really did stress me but then also amazed a lot of you know these very long words. Good luck to everyone for the rest of it

Matty Artell

Matty Artell Yes these formats should be in, but I think maybe it would be better and friendlier for new players if we started with some easier variants and have harder variants come in a bit later on

Sarah, it's a shame that you get stressed out over these tourneys, it's all just for fun. Whether you score high or low doesn't matter, especially in variants you haven't played before. The people who know all the long words have just spent time learning them specifically to play these variants!

Sarah M

Sarah M I agree it should start with easier formats and get more difficult for the super talented
