![]() | Adam Latchford ooooooffffffffff this is arguably the toughest language to do this in! |
![]() | Tom Cappleman Hebrew? |
![]() | Adam Latchford Yes probably should have specified toughest language that uses the same (or mostly same) alphabet |
![]() | Sean D For the bonus does no declaration count as not invalid? |
![]() | Fiona T penis is valid. hth. |
![]() | Chris Hare Sean D: Declaring nothing will be treated as valid. Mainly because that leads to a corollary that amuses me. |
![]() | Matthew Brockwell I'm probably not skilled enough to use them, but how will you treat the diacritic letters? Is Ä in Finnish interpreted as A in English? |
![]() | Chris Hare For this, no. I'll accept only words that Lexplorer tells me are in both lexicons. |
![]() | Jon Stammers Is there any way to have a browse of the Finnish dictionary apterous uses? |
![]() | Matthew Brockwell @Jon It seems the best you can do is make arbitrary lexplorer enquiries. Searching for A and then selecting "words using" brings up short words with A etc. The Finnish dictionary is an arbitrary selection of Finnish words, and AFAIK is not available anywhere. |

![]() | Matthew Brockwell As a Christmas present, I've knocked together the list of words valid in English and Finnish that are 4 letters or shorter, and contain a vowel. There are 161. Here's a link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DAXc4CbUY2yS_Y59U2neZ_iirxFs0_lY/view?usp=drive_link |
![]() | Sean D Thanks Matthew, true Christmas spirit sharing the list, cheers. |
![]() | Jon Stammers Thanks so much Matthew, I'd already done a bit of research myself through a few games and lexplorer enquiries so can add the following contributions in your giving spirit:

![]() | Adam Latchford I feel like if I open the spreadsheet produced it'd be like somebody opening my presents for me. So I'm gonna play normally and sit back and wait for penis |
Notes from the organizer: Game Ten! Oh dear...
It's time for our annual field trip to foreign fields, and a chance to demonstrate your multilingualism by declaring English words. Hold on to your hats, I foresee turbulence ahead.
This year, we're all off to Lapland. Your score for this Finnish Letters Attack is the sum of all the points you achieve in the game by declaring valid words that are also in the Apterous English lexicon. The player with the highest such score wins. Ties will be broken by giving preference to the player who scores in this way in the most rounds, then the player whose words are, in my subjective opinion, most surprisingly Finnish. Any further ties will be resolved at my sole discretion.
The BONUS TOURNAMENT POINT will be awarded to any player who makes no invalid declarations.
If you have any questions about the rules, scoring, or anything else pertaining to this tourney, please feel free to ask.
