![]() | Fiona T Am I right in thinking that a pit stop after a crash is a good idea to effect repairs, or did I invent that? :) |
![]() | Trevor Potts It can be. If you have wing damage then a pitstop will repair it so if you have a while left to go to the end of the race then you will likely save time by pitting soon rather than going to the end with wing damage.

![]() | Andy SC Bit of tape and it will be fine. |
![]() | Andy SC Medium-Soft tyre strategy please. |
![]() | Andy SC I might as well have just parked it nicely in the gravel at turn 1 an walked to the cherry blossom tree and enjoyed that instead. |
![]() | Trevor Potts Medium Soft strategy declined by the FIA on safety grounds 😂 |
![]() | Andy SC Didn't even bother to read the rules. At least the cherry blossom around the circuit was nice. :) |
![]() | Mark Jeary-Fairbairn Is there a maximum of two pitstops Trevor? It was obviously my intention not remotely that I was very… erm… slow. |
![]() | Trevor Potts There is I'm afraid. To be honest though I made that rule with dry races in mind, as Hard tyres will last well enough for 18 rounds so it's not too punishing even if you did pitstops on lap 1 and 2. I think inters would wear a bit though so I might have to have a look at that to increase the limit on damp races. |
![]() | Stephen Elsley I'm the same Andy, I should've joined you there |

![]() | Dan Byrom Ouch - 190 points for Matt OC but a race-ending crash in the single missed one! That's very unlucky!
|
![]() | Trevor Potts The DSQ is wrong to be honest, it's not possible in a damp/wet race aspit stops aren't mandatory, I just haven't got round to adjusting the race spreadsheet for that. But I would suspect no pit stops would finish last anyway due to the extreme tyre wear. Will update it before the end of the round to make sure of the correct result |
![]() | Ravi Choudhary Was wondering - can you change your inters for a new set of inters, or do you have to change them for a different type of tyre set? |
![]() | Trevor Potts you can ONLY change for inters. As I haven't got a facility for changeable weather conditions yet, damp races will always be Intermediate tyres, and wet races will always be Wet tyres. It's only dry races where different compounds will be used. |

The third round of the Formula Apterous and Formula Dipterous World Championships heads to Japan and....
We have our first rain of the season! Real F1 got weather chaos in the first round in Australia but this is the first time the advance forecast predicts precipitation at the time of Apto games being scheduled. I'm excited.
With a 72% chance of precipitation I am classifying this race as "damp" rather than full wet conditions, which means Intermediate tyres will be the optimal race tyre.
In yet more exciting news, the overtake calculations have been revamped in the first Technical Directive of the season (thanks to Chris for feedback on the previous model which was flawed). This will lead to much closer racing when in overtake territory and more fairly reward overtakers/punish the overtaken.
Due to the rain conditions, you will all be on Intermediate tyres and there is no mandatory pit stop for this race however it is STRONGLY recommended to make one anyway, as your Inters will be absolutely shredded if you try to make them last 20 laps. With increased crash chance in these conditions that would be very unwise, not to mention slow.
The optimal pit stop lap would be lap 10, but anywhere around the middle of the race is similar. A quick pit stop could give a lot of advantage in these conditions.
Deadline as usual is the day of the real life F1 race: Sunday 6th April. Good luck!
