Trevor Potts

Trevor Potts We're going to need a bigger spreadsheet.

Amazing to see 25 full-time driver sign-ups already, I didn't think we'd get to that many. Here's how I plan to deal with it if the numbers keep running away with things:

- I will continue to expand the grid up to a maximum of 15 teams / 30 drivers. In this case I will need to invent 3 new teams so if there's any new motorsport teams you would like to see in Formula Apterous I am open to suggestions.

- If we get beyond 30 drivers, in order for things to still make a modicum of success: I will split the sign-ups into two grids. The top 20-24 (depending on numbers) players based on Pro Rank will be our Formula 1 grid, and the rest will have their own separate championship like Formula 2. This will mean there's still clear competition and the chance for more people to compete for wins and podiums etc.

Trevor Potts Thanks Dave!

A couple of things not covered in there that differ from real F1:

- We don't have flags or safety cars in Formula Apterous. maybe next year if this goes well and I fancy making it more complicated.
- Formula Apterous drivers are allowed to swear in press conferences if they want to.

Trevor Potts

Trevor Potts We've hit 31 full-time driver sign-ups so can now confirm that, barring dropouts, we will have two grids for this tourney! Instead of F1 and F2 we will have Formula Apterous and Formula Dipterous.

Split will be:

If we have:

Up to 40 entries:
- 20 drivers (10 x teams of 2) in FA and up to 20 drivers (10x teams of 2) in FD

42 to 44 entries:

- 22 to 24 drivers in FA and 20 drivers in FD

For 45+ entries a team of drivers will be added first to FA then to FD, alternating.

In the event of an odd number of signups, I will represent Skoda in FA as a sole driver with the remaining drivers being sorted into teams of 2.

Who goes into FA or FD, and team allocation within each category, will be determined by Pro Rank as of w/c 24th Feb 2025.

Notes from the organizer: It's time! With the permission of 'The Old Pear' MSR, I will be bringing apterous's latest Formula 1 tourney. This will be a full simulation of the 2025 F1 season, running alongside the real thing, with tourney rounds for each event in the F1 calendar that will end on the day of the real-life event.

Full details can be found, and will be updated, in the Formula Apterous Regulations here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/162rDrf7FgpNJD3EHM-l3mncrGilAERha-fKBvuoV6sU/edit?usp=sharing

But here's the basics:

- IMPORTANT: By signing up here you are committing to participate in this tournament that will run from 1st March UP TO 7TH DECEMBER 2025. If you cannot commit to being available to play on average around two quick games vs Prune per week in this time frame, please do not enter. Click the next round link above however if you wish to be a reserve driver just on odd occasions where backups are needed.

- All games will be conundrum attacks vs prune in the Normal variant. While there will be some speed conundrum attacks for qualifying (see regulations for explainer) there will be no foreign language or weird variant games, no letters rounds, no numbers, and no head-to-head games versus other human players. All games will have a one-week deadline.

- Between 24 Grand Prix and 6 sprints, you will have a total of 60 tourney games over the course of the season.

- In qualifying, your goal is simply to get the fastest single conundrum solves you can, all else be damned. Qualifying scores you no points in the championship, but doing well will put you at an advantage in the race.

- In the race, speed is still ultimately the goal but here accuracy is incredibly important. Incorrect guesses could cost you dearly.

- All players will be allocated to a 2-driver team. There is an individual 'Driver's Championship' and a team 'Constructor's Championship'. You will score points for yourself and your team 2 based on your race performance.

- I will be overseeing the drafting of players onto a team to ensure a fair distribution of drivers. If you have a preference of which car team you would like to represent, or what race number (2-99) you would like on your car (this makes no difference to scoring) then please let me know before the end of February. Given I can't guarantee you'll get your preferred team, a list of preferences may be a good idea.

- If you are going to be away for an extended period and miss a race, please let me know in advance of the round starting. I will then attempt to sub in a reserve driver for that race only to compete for your team. Anyone who doesn't play their tourney game in the week allowed and hasn't requested a reserve driver will be classified as DNS (Did Not Start). Repeat offenders may be replaced by their team (via me) if a willing replacement driver is available.

Runs from: 28 January – 28 February 2025. Format: Conundrum Attack. Matches: One-off. Approved.
