"China"

Fi Thorne

Fi Thorne Hi Dave, will it be mainly against robots?

Dave Robjohns

Dave Robjohns Mostly yep! There will be a few events against people but only one where you’ll have more than one opponent at a time and I’ll give a whole month for that round. Also gave the option last time of only signing up for bot events.

One other thing to mention, nobody will actually be playing 100 events, the most around 60

Mike Lee

Mike Lee This tourney only happens every 4 years and I joined Apto just before the last one. It’s the best tourney for variety and fun and Dave’s imagination to theme events around Apto variants is amazing.

I encourage everyone to give this tourney a try.

CHINA!!!!!!!

Fi Thorne

Fi Thorne You've sold it to me Mike! :-)

Dan Spinks

Dan Spinks I was just thinking that it couldn't possibly be 4 years since the mighty China last competed in this then realised that the 2020 olympics were in 2021. what a weird world we used to live in

All subject to change (especially the obnoxious colour scheme), dates to be added in soon.

Teams will be decided on 23rd, I will try and retain most nationalities as I know some teams built up strong loyalty - but obviously some balancing and merging may be needed depending on numbers, plus Russia won't be competing in Paris

Suggestions also welcomed as some of you will know certain sports better than I do and have great ideas for relevant events - Sam's climbing event a good example (although they've only gone and changed the actual olympic event so it doesn't fit anymore!! - keeping it anyway)

Dave Robjohns

Dave Robjohns Have started a few events early as I realised the previous times I ran this I was an unemployed student in summer and barely allowed to leave the house (covid times). So will be a chunk of pre-scheduling if I can!

Still 3 and a bit days left to sign up and have a crack at winning a few medals :) Good numbers already, looking forward to it!

Dave Robjohns Deadline to sign-up: 3pm TODAY!
I'm not around at midnight so will be doing work on the games on Saturday afternoon.

Dave Robjohns NATIONALITIES

We ended on 44 entries, including 2 only playing bot rounds. These 2 have been re-assigned to their countries, leaving 42 players split into 14 teams of 3. Russia will not be attending the games, the other 14 countries from 2021 will be.

Then separated the 42 into 3 pools of 14 by rating, and have assigned 1 from each pool to each country, retaining nationality where possible. There were only 3 instances where this wasn’t possible - Dan, Dave K and Anthony the trio that have emigrated since the last Olympics. We end up with 14 (hopefully) reasonably balanced countries!

Stu Harkness We got our group chat from three years ago up and running again today. Beautiful.

We forgot about our beef with Jamaica!

Dan Spinks

Dan Spinks I hope Ben has been suitably briefed about the China-Jamaica rivalry

Tourney round: Aptolympics: Paris 2024: Sign-up round

<< S28 Division 3 | Paris 2024: Event 1: Archery >>

Notes from the organizer: Aptolympics is back for a third edition! This time we're off to Paris (& Tahiti), where the 33rd edition of the world's largest sports event will be taking place in July & August, with equal numbers of male and female athletes for the first time competing across 329 events.

Aptolympics will as ever feature every one of those sports (with 2 bonus paralympic sports!), with 100 imaginary shiny gold medals up for grabs this time round, with opportunities across all variants.

Over two editions we've seen 90 players now battle it out over 150 events with team France, led by Tom Cappleman's 14 individual golds, coming out on top in 2021.

2024 will feature 4 sports split into rating categories and at least 8 where players can choose which format/variant to enter, giving everyone plenty of chances to challenge for medals and play tactically. I also intend to run 7 of the events "live", so look out for those! Will definitely be something for everyone and plenty of team play.

The tournament will run for 7 weeks from 23rd June, culminating on 11th August in parallel with the Olympics.

The obligatory massive spreadsheet is currently being finalised... I'll aim to publish that at some point in the next week.

Please feel free to wing me any questions & whack your sign-ups in here!
