M S R

M S R One thing I forgot to say...I know when inviting tactical play that you lot are a tricksy bunch...So I reserve the right to lob a surprise or two in there should the need arise/I feel like it. Don't say I didn't warn you :D

Adam Latchford

Adam Latchford one of every fifteen rounder include all the langs?

M S R

M S R Alas not-just those listed in the link :)

Adam Latchford

Adam Latchford all those listed in the link + finnish, i like your thinking

Dave Robjohns

Dave Robjohns If you score highest, then score highest again, do you need to keep scoring highest in every single round after that to stay in? Or are you back to relative safety after those two?

M S R

M S R You need to keep scoring the highest, which I imagine won't be a challenge in any way shape or form :P

Sam Cappleman-Lynes

Sam Cappleman-Lynes The rule about scoring the lowest seems very easy to game. Half the field deliberately score zero in games 1, 3, 5... and the other half of the field deliberately score zero in games 2, 4, 6...

Matthew Tassier

Matthew Tassier Can't see why we would want to do that, Sam.

MSR, does an eliminated player lose all their points or remain in the league table?
How long per tournament round? I'm guessing it's going to be pretty short.

M S R

M S R Eliminated players are gone, out for good. Rounds won't be too long, will have a full schedule knocked together soon

I know these rules can be gamed. Tactics are the fun part here. But I can also lob other stuff in for a laugh if I want to. You may be one step ahead, but I'm forever catching up :P

Adam Latchford

Adam Latchford maybe eliminating last person to fin(n)ish their game that round to stop people waiting until they know where to fit in (obviously people could just wait until second to last but you could get a fun scrap of two people trying to do that simultaneously)

Sean D

Sean D I really like Adam's suggestion, otherwise there'll just be a lot of hanging around until there's a decent range to aim for

Sam Cappleman-Lynes

Sam Cappleman-Lynes Matthew, it was because I had only skimmed the rules and thought it was a last-man-standing job rather than a total points job :)

If it was simply last-man-standing, then having two people alternating between scoring zero and scoring a small non-zero amount would render the second elimination rule pointless. But they obviously won't do that if their points are being counted!

M S R

M S R Nw Sam! Feedback has been an interesting one...Latchford's rule I like so will incorporate...SO (add to elimination)

-If you are in the LAST FIVE people to complete their game (judged by timing on the game), you must avoid repeating that in the following round. Otherwise, it's curtains

(I will clarify all rules via Aptomail. And keep feedback coming! It's interesting to see what you lot come up with :D)

Matthew Tassier

Matthew Tassier Will that FIVE reduce when there are fewer contestants left in?

M S R

M S R It may do well to vary from round to round...Check each time :)

Fi Thorne

Fi Thorne If only I had the ability to try not to win, lol! I'm sure I will get eliminated pretty quickly as the lowest scorer, but I hope I don't go out for being one of the last to play, as it would definitely be due to time not tactics!

Stephen Elsley

Stephen Elsley So are these games just 15 rounders against the prune, and with quite a low rating am I ok to join this. Getting quite a beating in the everything courts tourney, lol

M S R

M S R Rating doesn't matter! This one is about tactics more than ability...To an extent

Dave Robjohns

Dave Robjohns Wonder if there's enough time to petition that Spoilage be added to this leaderboard before it starts :D

Tourney round: Under The Radar: Sign-Ups

Octolock >>

Notes from the organizer: For those who exalt themselves shall be humbled…

Welcome to Under The Radar-the latest design of my slightly sadistic head. Very simple, this one. One of every fifteen-rounder here will be played in an order yet to be decided-all against Prune
(https://www.apterous.org/statland.php?section=most_multitalented)

Your score from that will go into a league table. You want to be top, obvs. BUT THERE IS A TWIST

AIM-Your aim is to fly ‘under the radar.’ You don’t want your scores to raise any eyebrows. Don’t score the highest. Don’t score the lowest. BECAUSE…

ELIMINATION
-The player who scores the highest in the round will have to score the highest in the next round, or they will be eliminated.
-The player who scores the lowest in the round will have to not be lowest in the next round, or they too will be eliminated.

Someone needs to be the highest. Someone needs to be the lowest. And if those high/low scores are equal, I’m not looking at tie-breaks-all players on those scores are at risk of going/actually going depending on what the round produces. You’re welcome!

VICTORY
Either…
I-You are the last person left standing after everyone else has gone
II-You are top of the table when we’ve played one of each fifteen-rounder.

Have fun with that! Starts 09th March. More the merrier 🙂
