![]() | Dave Robjohns Fairly lengthy outline of the last 16 draw and how the rest of the tournament will work for remaining players and any interested onlookers! |
![]() | Chris Hare What would you have done if everyone decided to ban Spoilage? Declare Florence the winner? |
![]() | Dave Robjohns No idea :) There are enough unpopular variants in here it was never really a concern.
|
![]() | Stu Harkness Half of the 16 think Spoilage is pretty jobbies! XD |
![]() | Dave Robjohns One game went to a crucial but Florence is the first player into the QFs, 2-0. |
![]() | Dave Robjohns Ahmed puts his gameface on and triumphs 2-0 vs George to make the next round. Also, AESCULINS is a class 9 from both in bullet |
![]() | Dave Robjohns Callum takes down Ian in his speciality variant on a crucial to seal a 2-0 win and become the 3rd player in QFs. |
![]() | Dave Robjohns Rapid on the nundrums, the fourth player into the QFs with a tight 2-0 win in Junior/Instant over Maus was Adam! |
![]() | Adam Latchford I'm really regretting not having a specialist variant and having to try and drag junior through this tournament whilst people can defend their variants and rack up 200 points wins :') |
![]() | Dave Robjohns 2 games kept reasonably close until the final stages but it's Chris who takes a 2-0 win over Matthew. Just 3 slots left in the quarters now. |
![]() | Dave Robjohns We have our first 1-1, with Hazel and Sean each winning their speciality variants and even matching aggregate scores at 130-130! On to Goatdown & Touchdown Jnr we go |
![]() | Dave Robjohns One 50 point win and one concession, but 1-1 is 1-1, so Zohaib and Stu move on to Touch/Duck |
![]() | Dave Robjohns A great battle comes down to a crucial conundrum but Hazel holds on! 3-1 and the 6th player through. |

![]() | Dave Robjohns The final last 8 tie is in an interesting position with James 2-1 up heading into his 2nd pick (Unlimited). A great declaration under bullet pressure from Tom to force a crucial too. |
![]() | Dave Robjohns We have two games going the distance - firstly Tom coming from behind to beat James with a win in Aegilops to go through 3-2 into the quarter finals
|
![]() | Dave Robjohns A thrilling finish to the L16 as Zohaib takes the win in Omelette through 2 rapid conundrums to complete the QF line up.
|
![]() | Adam Latchford Can i check - if it goes 1-1 , we get to ban new variants? So it doesn't just carry from last time? |
![]() | Dave Robjohns Yep, now you know who you're facing so you can choose your ban to take out something they're good at and might want to pick |
Notes from the organizer: The knockout stages of Super Sixteens become best of 5 fixtures, with a random draw for each round. There's a small catch though - as the first two fixtures will be played in the "speciality" variant of each player - the one they won the knockout round for. If one player wins in their speciality and then wins in their opponent's speciality, they move on as 2-0 winners.
If the game is 1-1 after this, they'll then face two more games from the remaining variants in the pool (Aegilops, Bullet, Duckdown, Goatdown, Hyper, Hyper Nasty, Instant, Junior, Nice, Octorock, Omelette, Spoilage, Touchdown Jnr, Touchdown, Unlimited, Unlimited Jnr). Each player first gets to ban one variant from being picked, then picks one to play.
After these picks are played, if the score is 2-2, a random variant is played from the remaining variants as a decider.
For the round of 16, the picks/bans were done by all - without knowing their opponents. There was a lot of variety in the picks, less in the bans...
Picks: Aegilops (2), Duckdown (2), Goatdown (2), Touchdown (2), Unlimited (2), Bullet, Hyper, Hyper Nasty, Instant, Touchdown Jnr, Unlimited Jnr
Bans: Spoilage (8), Duckdown (3), Bullet (2), Goatdown, Hyper, Hyper Nasty
I then set about randomising the draw until we had a compatible set of fixtures, which only took 48 redraws xD
It is to be played out as follows:
Hazel Drury (Hyper Nasty) vs Sean D (Aegilops), with Goatdown & Touch Jnr to follow
Thomas Carey (Instant) vs Adam Latchford (Junior), with Duckdown & Aegilops to follow
Florence C-L (Spoilage) vs Mike Lee (Touchdown Jnr) with Unlimited & Touchdown to follow
Callum Todd (Hyper) vs Ian Volante (Omelette) with Hyper Nasty & Aegilops to follow
Zohaib Rehan (Goatdown) vs Stu Harkness (Unlimited Jnr) with Touchdown & Duckdown to follow
George Armstrong (Bullet) vs Ahmed M (Touchdown) with Instant & Goatdown to follow
Chris Hare (Unlimited) vs Matthew Brockwell (Octorock) with Unlimited Jnr & Hyper to follow
Tom Cappleman (Nice) vs James Hurrell (Duckdown) with Bullet & Unlimited to follow
These fixtures have no bearing on the future draws. Once all 8 games are completed, the QFs will be drawn, and the player drawn first in each fixture will get the first ban, P2 gets a ban, then P1 picks, followed by P2.
Each round should be done within about a month, as I'm allowing approx 10 days for first 2 games, 10 days for next two if 1-1, 10 days for decider if 2-2
Good luck to the super sixteen!
