Adam Latchford

Adam Latchford clarification - what would score more. dembaba or anderson - assume demba ba with 14? (for the knockout stage down the line)

I also assume you only score if you win the round so that wouldn't score as 14-8 it would be 14-0 ?

Andy SC Did George do flat scoring or regular scoring?

Adam Latchford

Adam Latchford regular

Andy SC

Andy SC In that case dembaba would score more and therefore win the round.

Elwin Carlos

Elwin Carlos Time to start looking up those nine letter full names... Mesut Ozil, John Terry... Any others?

Andy SC

Andy SC Twelve letter full names would be more productive :)

Elwin Carlos

Elwin Carlos Ah yes, sorry didn't realise it was hyper touch! Iker Casillas, Walter Samuel, David Beckham, Thierry Henry, Miroslav Klose... Best to avoid Brazilians though. Most of them only have one name...

Dave Kempshall

Dave Kempshall What happens if the player only has one name? Pele for example... or Anderson?

Andy SC

Andy SC @Dave - Unfortunately I will only take that to be one name. However, if you got a round that Neymar Junior was possible I would allow that as that is technically part of their full birth name. Neymar would also be fine to declare.

Dave Kempshall

Dave Kempshall Gotcha, makes sense.

Sean D

Sean D Possibly another couple of clarification required.... South Korean names are given as Family_Name, Given_Name. So for SON Heung-minh of Spurs presumably SON is valid but Heungminh is not.
Then theres the question of players with 2 or 3 word surnames Sami El-Jaber, Edwin Van Der Sar, Manuel Da Costa etc, etc. Can we assume ELJABER, VANDERSAR and DACOSTA are valid?

Andy SC

Andy SC @Sean - I think at some point already but can't remember exactly think I've accepted something like El-Jaber. So your 2nd point would be fine. As for the point of Korean player names I think I've had a few Korean players declared already but can't remember exactly what I allowed and didn't allow so would have to double check

Andy SC

Andy SC Looked up what I have allowed and with regards to Korean and Chinese players it's basically all full names that has been declared and seems I've allowed them in the form of (Family name),(Given Name). So I would say declaring full name either way round will be suitable. If it's going for just one. It would be just the family name. Hopefully, that's cleared it up.

Tourney round: CountFootballer: Sign-Ups

Seeding Round >>

Notes from the organizer: To celebrate the 2022 FIFA World Cup, CountFootballer (inspired by George's CountTown) will reward your knowledge and declaring of Footballers names.

In the seeding round, players will play three Hypertouch Letters Attacks against Prune where they will try and rack up as high a score as possible. The top 8 will advance to the group stage and play each others. Rankings will be determined by number of wins and then points scored. The top 2 will then advance to the Grand Final and then battle it out for CountFootballer glory.

Points can be scored in one of the following ways:
- Declaring the surname of a player that has been named in a squad for the Men's (1930-2018) or Women's (1991-2019) FIFA World Cup
- Declaring the surname of any male or female player that has played for Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland or Ireland
- If you can declare any players full name, for example. Denis Law you will score double points for that round.
- In addition to the above, the players name does not have to be OED Valid

A point to clarify for players with letters with accents and other funny symbols - João Mário would be taken to be Joao Mario.

If you have any questions about any points made then please do ask.

Ran from: 27 July – 19 August 2022. Format: Hypertouch Letters Attack. Matches: One-off. Approved.
