George Armstrong

George Armstrong Ah the two people who knocked me out playing each other - talk about divided loyalties ;)

Dave Kempshall

Dave Kempshall The first semi final was a classic. Florence and Bradley stepped up to the oche in a match that felt too close to call. The bookies had Bradley as pre-match favourite largely due to his rapid conundrum solving throughout the tournament. But it was Florence who came out of the traps flying, quickly building a 3-0 all on crucials to leave Bradley reeling.

Was Bradley going to limp out of the Ally Pally emergency exit with a whimper? Of course not, it’s Bradley. He rallied to pull it back to 3-2, and then sets were exchanged as Florence continued to keep her nose in front - 4-2, 4-3. When Florence made it 5-3, and one set away from the final, it was last chance saloon for Bradley. And that’s when he kicked into gear. With his back to the wall, he reeled off three consecutive crucial solves in 1.7 secs, 0.8 and then 0.9 to complete an incredible comeback and break Florence’s heart.

The deciding conundrum of the deciding set. As I said at the start, it’ll go down as one of the

Dave Kempshall Semi Final 2 took place this evening with Maus and Johnny stepping onto the main stage to do battle. Maus started the stronger, building a 2-0 advantage, but Johnny struck back to make it 2-2 as the conundrums ebbed and flowed in the early stages.

A quality 9-letter CRIMEWARE in leg 1 of the next set helped Johnny nudge in front, and a 1sec solve of the wonderful conundrum HEFFALUMP put Maus’ back firmly against the wall - 4-2 at the midway point.

Dave Kempshall

Dave Kempshall It was Johnny hitting the doubles with another crucial solve to make it 5-2 in what was his 5th straight set. That put him just one set from the final, but Maus was not going to go down without a fight as he hit a winning double with SCORPIOID to bring it back to 5-3… and then he narrowed the score to 5-4 - tension!

In set 10 it once again went to the wire, but this time Johnny got over the line by doubling out with MICRONIZE to claim a 6-4 win and advance to the final. Another high quality affair - wp both, gl for the final Johnny and thanks for playing Maus.

Notes from the organizer: And then there were four.

The temperature is rising. The fancy dress outfits are out in force. The scorer is losing his voice and the music is, for the first time, starting to get annoying.

It can only be the Semi Finals! Best of 11 now, so consistency will play a big part.
