Matthew Tassier Nice win for Chris, but check out Andy catching him out with the same trick 3 times!

Andy SC And that is all I have to show for in the game. | |
Matthew Tassier After a good start from Ronan, 6 rounds in a row to Tal turned this one around.

Matthew Tassier The highest seed involved in round 1 cruises through. Thanks for taking part, Atomic.

Matthew Tassier Some higher solves from Dan, but not enough to turn around the points deficit to Ian.

Matthew Tassier Amie shows she's on top of the format, losing just one tied round here to post the top score so far.

Matthew Tassier Dave just about turns this one around with superior climbing skills, including the highest peak yet this round (41600 R13).

Matthew Tassier A lot of to-and-fro here, but Sam goes safely through.

Matthew Tassier Neck-and-neck through the first half, but the momentum was very much with Jamie through the second half.

Matthew Tassier Superior climbing from Wesley turned this one around. Thanks for taking part, Ian.

Matthew Tassier A humdinger to complete round 1 as Elizabeth turns around a 30 point deficit to establish a 14 point lead after 17 rounds, only for Keith to climb higher in 2 of the last 3 rounds to grab the win.

Notes from the organizer: First round of the Normal format tournament, two weeks to play the games. Full bracket available here: https://challonge.com/MontBlanc
Note the departure from usual rules below ...
Scoring:
Tied rounds will be awarded to the player who climbs the highest in their intermediate calculations, providing that peak is higher than the final declaration. The other player will score 0 points for the round. If both players have reached the same peak in their calculations, or if neither player has gone above the final total, then the round will remain tied. However, if both players have declared the same distance away from the target, one of them above and one below, then the player declaring above the target will win the round if the other player has not reached at least that number on the way to their target.
For assessing the intermediate totals, dead ends in your calculations will be ignored. That is, there must be a path through your calculations from the intermediate total to your final total.
There is no doubling/halving of round scores in the knockout tournament, that was just a mechanism to make the seeding round work well.
Any tied games will be awarded to the player who has reached the highest point with a scoring solve anywhere in the game. If this is also tied then there will need to be a replay. If you are keeping track of scores then feel free to play the replay before I've added a game to the system, but please just mention in chat that that is what you are doing.
Bonne chance!
