Notes from the organizer: Welcome to the Cricket World Cup.

This is yet another "follow the structure of a real-life event" tournament, and we're following the 2023 Cricket World Cup.

Why 2023 and not 2019, or the 2021 World T20? Well, the Qualifying format is what is really exciting here.

This chart explains it a lot better than I can (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_Cricket_World_Cup_qualification#/media/File:Qualification_Pathway_for_2023_ICC_Cricket_World_Cup.png) but anyway:

The tournament will be in several stages:
Stage 1: Pre-Qualifying
- Top 13 players play "Super League" where top 8 will go straight into World Cup, remaining 5 into Qualifying. A sort-of triple round robin, each team will play 8 out of 12 opponents. Each team plays 24 matches.
- 14th-20th play "League 2", a Sextuple Round Robin. The top 3 will go straight into Qualifying, the remaining 4 will go into the Qualifying Play-Off. Each team plays 36 matches.
- 21st-32nd play "Challenge League", split into two groups of six and a triple round robin. The winners of each of these groups will go into the Qualifying Play-off, the remaining 10 will be eliminated for good. Each team plays 15 matches.

Stage 2: Qualifying Play-off
- The bottom four teams of League 2 and the two winners of the Challenge League will play either a single or double round robin (the ICC have not yet confirmed what is happening). The top two will go through to Qualifying. The remaining 4 will be eliminated for good.

Stage 3: Qualifying Group Stage
- The bottom 5 of the Super League, the top 3 of League 2, and the top 2 of the Qualifying Play-Off will compete in a single round robin in two groups. The top 3 in each group will go through to a Super Six stage of Qualifying. The remaining 4 will be eliminated for good. Each team plays 4 matches.

Stage 4: Qualifying Super Six
- The top 3 of each group of the Qualifying Group Stage will play a Super Six tournament. Your results against the two teams who also qualified from your group will be carried forward here, meaning you need only play those you did not play in the Group Stage of Qualifying. The top two will play a rather pointless final, but will also progress to the World Cup proper. The remaining 4 will be eliminated for good. Each team plays 3 matches.

Stage 4: World Cup Group Stage
- A single round-robin. The top 4 progress to the semi finals, the remaining 6 are eliminated for good.

Stage 5: World Cup Finals
- Semi finals and final. These are seeded based on the group stage, so 1st plays 4th and 2nd plays 3rd, before a showpiece final.

And then we'll have a winner.

Sign-ups open for 1 month. Be prepared for this to take several months. Sign-ups will close on **10 FEBRUARY 2021**.
