Notes from the organizer: This is Round 1 of the CCOT 2021.
AMENDMENTS AND CORRECTIONS
(Compared to the provisional format published on 24 November)
1. Players will be split into groups of 5, with a total of 3 groups (A, B and C). In case of an uneven amount of players among groups, Apterous bots who match the average level of players will be filled into groups with vacancies.
As the defending champion, Bradley Horrocks will be automatically allocated to Group A.
2. Tie-breakers
In case of a tie, these tie-breakers will break the ties, in order:
1) Points (without bonuses);
2) Gain/lost ratio (Points gained/points opponents gained);
3) Points gained;
4) Head-to-head result.
3. Scoring:
If the match ends up with a 2-0, winner scores 3 points
If the match ends up with a 2-1, winner scores 2 points, loser scores 1 point
For forfeited competitions, both competitors score 0 points.
4. Bonuses: In any of the 6 letters rounds (NOT conundrums)in each game, if any player spells a 9-letter word, player will score a 0.2-point bonus. Only one bonus can be claimed for each player in each game, but not necessarily each match.
5. Qualification for Round 2
Top 2 from each of the three groups, and the 2 best from the rest (in terms of points) qualify for Round 2;
All the other players will play individually in the Play-offs for the last 2 spots in the next round.
A total of 10 players will play in Round 2.
