Matthew Tassier

Matthew Tassier With tomorrow being the final day to sign up for this, we now have a record number of entries for one of these Weakest Link tournaments.

Eoin Jackson

Eoin Jackson Is a 2021 edition planned?
And if so, is it to be this month, or later in the year?

Matthew Tassier

Matthew Tassier Yes, there should be a 2021 edition. It will be starting later in the year as we've just recently finished this one. Tentatively I'm thinking a July start.

Eoin Jackson

Eoin Jackson Summer = beach and normal everyday things. The colder parts of the year are better for nerdy pursuits.

If it were me, I would try and migrate it back to its January home. Perhaps Feb or March 2021, then Jan 2022.

Obviously, if it has to be Summer time... then grand. Hopefully I'll still be in full-on nerd mode when it comes around. :)

Tourney round: Weakest Link Numbers Tournament 2020: Sign-up page

Round 1 - Unlimited Junior >>

Notes from the organizer: Welcome to the long awaited 5th annual running of the Apterous Weakest Link Numbers Tournament. Last year Bradley narrowly succeeded in becoming the first player to defend his crown. Here is the role of honour:
2016 - Chris Butler
2017 - Tom Carey
2018 - Bradley Horrocks
2019 - Bradley Horrocks https://www.apterous.org/to_meta.php?meta=5245
For a variety of reasons, we return a bit later in the year this time, with the tournament starting in September. Will 2020 see Bradley completing a hat-trick of victories or will it be time for him to hand over his crown?

Starting with the easier variants this tournament will be a journey through apterous numbers formats with the lowest scorer(s) being eliminated each round.
One bot will be randomly chosen for each round and all players will play a numbers attack in that round's variant against that bot.
The lowest scoring player (or players if we need to eliminate more than 1) is knocked out each round. If there is a tie for lowest score then the tiebreaks will be:
1) performance against opponent (i.e. margin of victory/loss over 20 rounds).
2) Total player score over all tournament rounds so far.

With the first round beginning on Sept. 14th, there should be a new round every Monday and Friday for about 3 months. Rounds will be overlapping with a two week time limit giving some flexibility in case of holidays etc. If you are going to be away from apterous for more than a week then aptomail me and you will be able to play round(s) early if necessary.
Hopefully there will again be enough participants to allow us to go through the full list of 24 recognised numbers attacks.

NOTE : Games should be played in a single sitting (barring unforeseen problems), after all there's no passing and coming back later in The Weakest Link. Any penalties for anyone repeatedly failing to do this will be at the organiser's discretion.

Whether you have designs on winning the tournament, or you're just challenging yourself to get through the first few rounds, please don't hesitate to throw your hat into the ring.
Sign-ups will remain open until the end of the first week of the first round.
All aboard!
