Jason Larsen

Jason Larsen Thank you Callum!

Ronan M Higginson

Ronan M Higginson OK I have decided to withdraw from participating due to the person running this event blocking me.

James Haughton

James Haughton Ronan, you are young so it is understandable, but when someone blocks you, you should probably try and think about why they have blocked you and whether you should do some things differently on Apto. This is not the right way to react.

Tricia Lockhart

Tricia Lockhart It is bad enough having infighting amongst politicians, don't know what is behind the above, but rise above it, Ronan. I would hope to take part but am subject to demands of others at the moment so I will set a reminder for the day and hope to be able to join in. Hoping indicating this is more useful than for me to sign up and then withdraw.

Ronan M Higginson

Ronan M Higginson I'll try and sign up again Tricia. I'm so very sorry.

Tricia Lockhart

Tricia Lockhart No problem, Ronan. You are young and learn as you go. The politicians are all old enough to know better.

Callum Todd

Callum Todd That's fine. To enter this tourney all you have to do is be online on the day and commit to sticking around for the duration of the tournament. Sign up here is just to display interest, it isn't strictly necessary.

Tricia Lockhart

Tricia Lockhart Thanks Callum. It sounds a great idea and i am certainly hoping to join in.

M S R Apologies Callum, going to have to withdraw. Just found out I'll be stuck on a train between Bournemouth and Birmingham on 04/01.

Tourney round: Co:Apterous 3: Sign-up page

Round 1 >>

Notes from the organizer: Sign-up here to indicate your intention of competing in Co:Apterous live on 4th January 2020.

~~~ NOTE: YOU MUST BE COMMITTED TO BE ONLINE ON APTEROUS AND ABLE TO PLAY AT ALL TIMES BETWEEN 12 NOON AND 5PM ON SATURDAY 4TH JANUARY 2020 IN ORDER TO TAKE PART IN THIS TOURNAMENT. PLEASE DO NOT SIGN-UP IF YOU CANNOT MAKE THAT COMMITMENT. ~~~
Signing up here isn't mandatory if you want to play; you can just turn up on the day. Nor is it binding if you have to back out. But it will help me gauge roughly what turnout to expect.
The purpose of Co:Apterous is to mimic a co:event but on apterous. This is especially for the benefit of those apterites amongst us who haven't attended a co:event before or are unable to attend many.
The format will be as follows (all games are 9 Rounders except the final):
Round 1 - players randomly drawn into groups of 3, play mini round-robins within their groups
Round 2 - same as round 1 (with no repeat fixtures)
Round 3 - players are sorted into groups of 3 with players who have performed similarly to them so far (if there is only a small field of players, say less than 20, repeat fixtures now allowed)
Round 4 - as round 3, except with no repeat fixtures from round 3 allowed.
After 4 rounds, so 8 games played each, players will be sorted into their final standings sorted by wins first, then points, then conundrums solved, then points difference, then... I dunno, height or something. The top 4 will enter into a semi-final draw. The final will be a 14 Rounder.
This format differs from a standard 'Lincoln-style' co:event in a couple of small ways:
- most co:events only have 3 rounds, not 4, with only the first round being a random draw and the last 2 seeded. I've added a fourth round because apterous is quicker than in-person co:events, so we'll have plenty of time for extra games.
- most (but not all) 'Lincoln-style' co:events do not have semi-finals or use a different format for the final. Here we will do both of those things, again because we have plenty of time to do so due to apterous being quick.
I encourage all participants, and passing spectators, to use the Discordterous group of Discord to voice chat with one another during the day, to help replicate the social feel of a co:event. You can join that group at this link: https://discord.gg/mx7TBvQ
Any questions, please ask.
