Tim Down Congratulations, Liam!
Liam O Much appreciated, Tim, thank you very much.
Tracey Mills Well done Liam
Tracey Mills Well done Liam
Ali Knight Cheating in the final Liam? tut tut
Ian Volante Previous two rounds too :(
Samir Pilica Don't understand this. Why were all Liam's game ruled out ? His vocabulary is immense. Surely, no need to cheat.
Ian Birdman Why the fact he was cheatimg is why his vocabulary seemed immense samir! Fair play to amie for winning one...true champion in my eyes (with honourable mentions to the others liam cheated on the way)
Ian Birdman Maybe the fact he was cheating...i think its fair to say i could do with some kind of cheat detector to help my typing ability!
Phil Collinge I elected not to comment publicly until I had contacted all interested parties, as disqualifying someone who has just won a title is a big call to make, and one from which there is no going back.
| |
Phil Collinge The tournament will now resume with a Quarter-Final between Norm Ahmad and Tim Down, the winner playing John Beresford in the Semi-Final, and the winner of that playing Amie Bateen in the final.
| |
Ian Birdman Immensely disappointing. But where one door shuts (goodbye), another hopefully opens....good luck to those left in!!
Elliott Mellor I myself was very surprised to see this as I've played Liam many times before and would never have suspected him. I'm very glad that it's been found, and that the people he cheated against are being given a chance to have a fair crack at winning. Good luck to Norm, Tim, John and Amie, you're all immensely talented players and didn't deserve to be wrongfully ousted.
Tim Down To be honest, I played like a pile of old plops against him and he would have had no need to cheat so it's a bit of a lucky break for me.
Ian Birdman Classic Tim
Phil Collinge And here we are again! Best of luck folks.
Tim Down Very well played, Amie. Thanks for very much for organising, Phil, especially with all the extra work involved this time.
Spike Nard Well done Amie- well played Tim :)
Phil Collinge Congratulations Amie, commiserations Tim. All 3 games were crucials which shows how tight this match was. Max count for the final was 12-11, 11-12, 13-11.
Phil Collinge Thanks also to Charlie, who promptly identified the rogue in our midst, and subsequently rewound a completed tournament for the first time in Apterous history. Without the Eye of Apterous this tournament would have been won by a charlatan.
Elliott Mellor Massive congrats to Amie on winning a very hard fought final against a tremendous opponent. Glad to see that we have a proper champion eventually, not some rogue cheat.
Tracey Mills Well deserved win Amie, glad to see a proper champion not a cheat.

Sean Fletcher Well done, Amie. Unlucky Tim. 3 great games
Amie Bateen Thanks All and well done to Tim. Was certainly a close one, all down to the conundrums in the end. The letter selections in particular were unusual in being more of the commonplace lexicon that apto-learnt, which would normally play to my game more, but it was really good to have a close battle. Well played again Tim. :-) And thanks to Phil for organising. We got there eventually!
Jen Steadman So glad that the tournament had a fair outcome! And three fantastic games in the final. Well done Amie!! <3
Charlie Reams Great final!
Elliott Mellor And one without anyone cheating:) |
