Ben Andrews (Sorry, forgot to say: everyone's games are against Apterous Prune.)
Martin Hurst Nice idea - sounds fun :)
Ben Andrews Thanks :) to be clear, hopefully you will be able to sign up here soon, but I messed up the setting up so I've asked Charlie to fix it.
Zarte Siempre Sounds like a Mole task I've done a couple of times. I'll be in.
Ben Andrews Ok, I'll add you to the list. Out of interest, is there anywhere I can read about the task? :)
Zarte Siempre I think they were both before these things were documented. I recall one was very similar to this, done individually, and then the next time was a team conundrum one, where you had to predict how the person after you would do.
Zarte Siempre They'd be in chat logs if you went back far enough, but scrolling back 4 years would be a pain :)
Mike Springett That looks very good!! if it does happen, I'll def be in :D
Ben Andrews Ok, you're on the list. 3 people in now
James Laverty Does sound interesting. I'll sadly skip since I'm taking a break from apto when my subscription expires but hope it goes well.
Ian Volante In please. | |
Chris Hare In please, nice idea.
Anthony Endsor I'll give it a go Ben. :)
Ben Andrews Ok, you're in :)

Ben Andrews The tournament will be starting imminently but you can still join until the end of Round 1 on the 15th. |
Notes from the organizer: This is a new tournament format I'd like to try out. In this game, being skilled is not enough - you need to know how skilled you are, and have the courage to trust yourself!
You will play 9 variants in total (not revealing them all yet, but hint: there'll be none of the ridiculous Hypertouch and Spoilagey stuff), playing a 9 Rounder in each, with Maxes only scoring. But before you play your game, you must, in secret, make a bid of how many maxes you expect to get. Successfully score at least this many, and you'll get 10 points for every max you bid. Fail to make the bid, and you miss out on all these points! There's also 2 points for every max you actually get.
Example 1: bid 4, score 5. 4x10=40 + 5x2=10, 50 points.
Example 2: bid 7, score 6. 6x2=12, 12 points. Bid not made, so no 10 point scores.
Each round will last a week. You will need to aptomail me your bid, then play your game afterwards. I will make no bids public until the round is over. If you are going to be away for a while, I can arrange for you to play rounds early.
Whoever has the highest score after week 9 will be crowned the champion. I'm happy to explain anything you might not understand. It doesn't matter whether you think you can win or you just wanna have a bit of fun - I'd love to see you playing. Good luck to all who enter!
(Any card players take note: yes, I know this is grossly simple compared to the Bridge auction. Please don't shout at me.)
Ran from: 20 December 2016 – 15 January 2017. Format: 9 Rounder. Matches: One-off. Approved.
