Callum Todd

Callum Todd Hahahahaha :D

Tracey Mills

Tracey Mills This is not Funny guys :D

David Barnard

David Barnard LOL Jack

Jack Worsley

Jack Worsley It may still be day one but incredibly Callum Todd has already played all six of his games and he wins Group A with a 100% record. Nicely done. Hope we can keep this sort of speed up.

Callum Todd

Callum Todd All six group games in one day?! *Insert Mourinho-esque rant about Champions League fixture congestion*

Jack Worsley

Jack Worsley I've been considering adding a "Europa League" for the eight players who finish third in their groups. In real life, the EL is the second European competition after the CL, as some teams drop out of the CL into it. If it goes ahead, it'll be a simple knockout competition starting with the quarter finals. The QF and SF will be two legs and the final will be just one. Those who finish third will also have the option to decline a place in the EL as it wasn't originally planned. I believe that having this extra mini competition will be beneficial to the less-fancied players as I'm sure a fair few of you will feel you have no realistic chance of making the next round of this competition but certainly have a chance of finishing third. Please let me know what you think, cheers.

Brett Davids

Brett Davids As someone for whom finishing third would be a massive achievement, something like the EL as an aim would be a great motivator for me!

Jack Worsley

Jack Worsley Giles becomes the second player to qualify, although he's not yet confirmed as group winner. I'm hoping to publish the first group tables in the next 24 hours.

Thanks for the feedback on the EL so far, although it would be nice to have a little more. Right now I think it'll go ahead but I'm not absolutely certain. Thanks to Andy P for the idea.

George Ford

George Ford YES GOOD IDEA

Jack Worsley

Jack Worsley The tables are now up on the forum: http://www.c4countdown.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=10656

If you want to know how things stand in between updates, just send me an aptomail and I'll quite happily tell you.

Sean D

Sean D I like the idea of the EL (which may say something about my ambition, or lack of it!)

Jack Worsley

Jack Worsley Group D is the first group to be completed. David advances as group winner, Charlie as runner-up and James goes into the Europa League, which I'm now 99% sure will go ahead.

Charlie Reams

Charlie Reams *high five Group D'ers*

James Laverty

James Laverty Sorry for my lack of progress but I have had a succession of events making me unavailable. I should be back to full availability on apterous from this weekend

Jack Worsley

Jack Worsley Don't worry, James, there's plenty of time to play them. :)

Jack Worsley Time for another update: http://www.c4countdown.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=10656&p=154796#p154796

There are currently ten players through to the next round, which are all eight top seeds, Charlie and Martin.

The deadline for getting the games played is on Sunday but it would be cool if we could finish before then, so we can move on. Those of you with unplayed games, please think about contacting your opponent(s) if you haven't done so already.

As for the Europa League, you'll be presumed in if you finish third in your group, unless you tell me you don't want to enter, which is fair enough as it wasn't originally planned. If this happens, I will find a replacement, probably whoever finishes fourth in that group. Just to remind you, you may be refused entry into the knockout stage or th Europa League if you haven't made enough effort to play your games.

Just waiting for a couple of games to be played and then we can move on. Deadline is tomorrow.

Jack Worsley

Jack Worsley All games have now been completed, which is a pleasant surprise. Here are the final tables: http://www.c4countdown.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=10656&p=154796#p154796

Most of you will now be entered either for the next round of this competition or into the Apterous UEFA Cup. Thanks to everyone who played but didn't make it into one of them. Good luck to the rest!

Tourney round: Apterous Champions League: Group Stage

<< Qualifying Round | Round of 16 >>

Notes from the organizer: This is where the main tournament begins. The 13 players who received byes into this round will be joined by the 19 who won their qualifying ties for the group stage; eight groups consisting of four players each. If you've made it this far, then well done. I'll probably be using a thread on the C4C forum to present the tables, which I'll update regularly. I'll create it when the draw's made and post a link to it in the comments section. The draw will be made shortly after the qualifying round has been completed.

Just a couple of minor rule changes regarding unplayed games to tell you about:

1. If a player is awarded victory due to a no show from their opponent, they'll be awarded at least a 3-0 win, in accordance with UEFA rules. If their average score to the nearest 1 is more than 3, then this score to 0 will be used instead. I previously stated that the average would be used in all cases.

2. I previously stated that any player deemed to be at fault for any of their games not being played would be denied a place in the next round, even if they had done enough in their other games to qualify. Now, it won't be an automatic expulsion. It MAY still happen if I think there's a potential risk of you holding up the rest of the tournament but I will use my own judgement should any cases like this arise.

Ran from: 10 September – 8 November 2014. Format: Champions League. Matches: One-off. Level scores: Drawn. Approved.

Organizers: Jack Worsley.

Fixtures: 94. Completed: 94.
