The apterous site policy

This page describes what is and is not allowed on apterous. If you don't follow these rules, your account may be closed without warning, your previous games and progress will be removed, and you will not receive a refund for any ongoing subscriptions.

General conduct

The following rules apply at all times:

  1. You may only have one active account. (If you need to create a second account for some reason, please file a ticket.)
  2. Treat other players respectfully, including in the in-game chat, aptomail, and ticket discussions. Robust debates and unpopular opinions are fine, but please keep it civil.
  3. Do not harass other players using any feature of the game or website.
  4. Do not manipulate ratings or Pro Ranks, including by deliberately losing or fixing the result of a game.
  5. Do not make public accusations or insinuations about someone cheating. If you have any suspicion, use the "Report this game" link on the game page.
  6. Do not attempt to find out the Daily Duel rounds before playing them (e.g. using multiple accounts or asking other players).

In-game rules

The following rules apply to all games. Put simply, your answers in all rounds must come from you alone, not from any outside assistance or computer program. Specifically:

  1. A round is considered "in play" from when the selection begins (the first letter or number comes up or the conundrum is revealed) until the timer stops and the solutions are revealed.
  2. While a round is in play, the following rules always apply (including games against bots):
    • Do not use an anagram solver, numbers solver, word lookup service, dictionary, or another assistance program.
    • Do not disconnect deliberately, including closing the tab or throwing your computer in the bath.
  3. Do not refuse to complete a game because you are unhappy with the likely result. Most games should be completed in a single session, but if you do need to take a break, let your opponent know and finish the game next time you're available.
  4. You may freely use any other information available in the game window, including results from previous rounds or examples from the Rules tab.

All pretty straightforward really!

What to do next?

Enjoy the game!
