Hywel Morgan re: Not quite sure yet how we're going to whittle down interested parties to the 32 required for the World Cup finals proper. I'm not a full member any more as I just don't have time atm. Happy to withdraw. Best of luck, sounds good!

Andy Platt

Andy Platt Any movement with regards to this being started? Perhaps the end of the month? I think people have had more than enough chance to sign up if they wanted to.

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison Yeah sounds pretty reasonable. As it stands on 40 that's 24 in and 16 to play off for the remaining 8 places right? WIf no movement by Monday we're good to go.

Andy Platt

Andy Platt Sure. Personally, I'd be tempted to message some more regulars to try and push it up to 48 entrants, at which point a double elimination qualifier looks appealing, but it's your call.

Andy Platt

Andy Platt ^ Slight contradiction maybe. But I just noticed that people like Mark weren't in but probably would play unless he's not around this summer. Also the likes of Anthony who expressed an interest on the forum but has not registered could probably also be nudged into taking part.

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison I told Mark and he ignored me. Bastard.

Eoin M

Eoin M Would absolutely love to play in this (2010 was top notch), but AS exams will mean I won't get the time. :(

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison Aww thanks Eoin. We'll miss you!

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison how does it work 48 double elim

Andy Platt

Andy Platt Will aptomail for practical reasons

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre Thought I was being Grandfathered in :(

Andy Platt

Andy Platt Still only 43 (44)? Thought this might have a little more interest.

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison Yeah same - maybe it's the time of year, aptoSOS.04 is still languishing at 30-something entries when season 03 hit almost 70 in the end.

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison 1 more to hit 48. Entries have slowed down so that seems like a good time to say 16 enter and 32 qualify for 16 remaining places.

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison 1 day left for this first round of qualifying. Phil and Rhys are hoping to clash tonight, and Jason is heading for a bye against Kevin who hasn't been seen in a while.

Andy Platt

Andy Platt Looks like that's sorted - can you do the draw live in apto chat at some point?

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison Certainly wasn't planning to but don't see why not - what time would be popular? (tonight)

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison Actually it had better be tomorrow, just in case Turner-Stoba happens out of the blue late tonight,

Jonathan Wynn

Jonathan Wynn Did this happen?

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison No, been very ill. Sorry. Still am. Will just put the draw up on C4C and here later on today .Sorry!

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison Ok, removed Jason Turner vs Kevin Stoba. Turner gets the win obviously but Stoba remains in the losers bracket and will probably gift one loser into R3 of Qualifying. About to do Winners and losers draws now.

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison That's the 8 R2 winners fixtures up.

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison ...and the 8 R2 losers fixtures up too. Looks like Brett Davids will be the lucky recipient of the Stoba bye this time.

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison I'd like to say done by 9th May so let's try that and see what happens. Good luck all.

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison Sunday 11th May actually.

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison Congrats Tracey on being the first qualified qualifier!

Tracey Mills

Tracey Mills Thank you Matt !

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison Joined by the raccoon.

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison 9 of 16 of the R2 qualifying matches done now. 5 double winners definitely in the tournament proper (yay) and 4 double losers definitely consigned to the regional leagues for the next four years (boo).

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison Today was supposed to be the deadline for R2 but might have to give a couple days extension for the remaining fixtures - Stoba and Rye not been around for a while so Davids and Laverty due to get byes. But the other three matches no one has exchanged any messaging at all...

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre Anoush is useless, and George has exams so is revising most of the time. Can't talk for Rhys/Heather

Heather Styles

Heather Styles Heather is also useless but has made amends by sending a message to Rhys

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison Plan to move onto R3 qualifying on Friday - making Thursday night (tomorrow) the last evening's worth of opportunity. Calling things after that.

Jon O'Neill

Jon O'Neill I love it when you put your foot down

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison I'm doing it pretty weakly to be honest, just because some of the adjudications will be awkward.

Tom Barnes

Tom Barnes I can play any time today up until about 6.30, or maybe after midnight

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre Matt - I saw Ben trying to get his game played last night. Anoush didn't answer him. (Just to help)

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison Laverty is getting a bye over Rye.
Davids is getting a bye over Stoba.

Those two are clear by "last seen" dates.

Pryn has not responded so Tom will be getting that one.

Heather made the better effort than Rhys so that's the only tight adjudication but she gets it.

Barring any unexpected last-minute plays, R3 up tomorrow (2 weeks to play) along with latest list of "definitely in"s.

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison To add to the 16 ranked seeds, we now have an extra 8 who are in the main competition:
Jon Stitcher
Jim Bentley
Tom Barnes
Jon O'Neill
Heather Badcock
Ben Wilson
Tracey Mills
Michael Wallace

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison R3 for the last 8 places now:

Heather Styles Chris Marshall
Matt Morrison Brett Davids
Antoinette Ryan Mark James
Phil Makepeace Peter Fenton
Ian Volante George Pryn
Kieran Bray Jason Turner
James Laverty Amie Bateen
Anoush Khachik John Vivian

Chris Marshall

Chris Marshall I'd have rather played Rhys ;-)

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre Hahaha, harsh. Only one of Chreather can make the world cup.

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison First out the bag too. Not even the exciting tension of the possibility rising as the draw went on :-P

Matt Morrison

Matt Morrison stupid thing, who wants to run this?

Chris Marshall

Chris Marshall LOL I agree, stupid World Cup. Maybe Heather (B) will run it for you while we sulk.

Gevin Chapwell

Gevin Chapwell Only one of you can get through, but on the other hand, one of you has to get through! It can be seen as a positive!

2014: Group stage >>

Notes from the organizer: Hi all.

Not quite sure yet how we're going to whittle down interested parties to the 32 required for the World Cup finals proper, but please sign up here and once it's sorted out it will be arranged here as fairly as possible.

The only entry requirement is that you need to have a real photo of yourself that I can access either via Facebook or you emailing it to me.

Thanks
Matt
