Zarte Siempre Commenting here, as it won't appear in the "Tournaments you can enter" bit.

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre Someone's just pointed out that I should've said, these must be ENGLISH formats. No Spanish Omelette etc.

Kevin Stoba

Kevin Stoba No CSW?

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre I'm going to say not because I think allowing it would cause a bigger row than not allowing it.

Chris Hare

Chris Hare Two questions:
1) By 'whatever 15 round format you like', do you mean any format explicitly described as a "15 Rounder" or any format with 15 rounds (like a Blitz, say)?
2) Are there any restrictions on round length, or is something like Bullet Spoilage permissible?

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre 1) Something described as a 15-rounder specifically.

2) Formats where a round length is different by design (speedgoat for instance) are absolutely fine to play, but I would request people kept their games to the round length the format was originally designed with.

This having been said, if one person wanted a bullet spoilage game, as you suggest, and the other wanted a bullet duckdown game - I'd have no issue with 2 people agreeing to do this as long as both really WERE in agreement.

Sean D

Sean D Isn't there a big problem here with the relative value of different formats, especially Spoilage? Best of 3 with a standard 15 rounder as the third game ( where ne necessary) would seem more sensible.

Jamie M

Jamie M It's Stepdown scored so relative values wouldn't matter, everything would be out of 150. A Stepdown 15 would probably work as a tie break (for equal total scores) though - unless you were thinking Away Points Rule Zarte?

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre Sean - what Jamie said basically.

If someone wins 150-140 in a standard 15, but then loses 30-18 in a Spoilage, Spoilage takes it.

In the event of a tie, I was considering going "most combined maxes" wins - unless anyone thinks of anything more suitable.

Sean D

Sean D Pfft. Do you expect me to read ALL the rules before charging in with irrelevant points?

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre Funnily enough...

Tourney round: Apto-tude Cup: Round 1

Round 2 >>

Notes from the organizer: This is a brand new feature for the Apto-tude model - we've got the league, which has been going successfully for 10 cycles now. Now it's time for the cup.

To start with, I'd like to point out that the cup is ONLY open to those people in the league as of cycle 11. All of you will receive an aptomail about this personally, however it will be presumed that if you're playing in the league, you'd also like to play in the cup, unless you tell me otherwise. I have a feeling that this may require a lot of admin on my part, as I'm not sure whether apterous's tourney system can handle the format, but here goes:

The entire tournament will involve a random draw, from round to round, guaranteeing some interesting fixtures all over the place. Each player will play their opponent in a "home" leg and an "away" leg - to differentiate this tournament from most others, though - versatility will be essential in order to win.

The "home" player will be able to pick whatever 15 round format they like, from standard to spoilage and everything in between. They must set up this 15 rounder with their opponent to stepdown scoring. The 2 matches will be played, i.e. "Player X picks Duckdown" "Player Y picks Unlimited" and the scores from the 2 games will be added together, giving the final result.

Each round will last one cycle, meaning the cup will go on for the majority of a year. If this is successful, a new one will start at the end of the first cup - if it doesn't work, we'll scrap it :) In essence though, it means you'll have an extra 2 matches to play in a 6 week period.

As I don't think that apto-tude can handle something that isn't a "best-of" style tournament - one player will be expected to send me both games from their fixture, and the other player will be asked to confirm that this.

This may need bearing with, as it is very much going to be a trial - but I think this could be a lot of fun :)

For the record, in the likely event that we don't have a square number of players involved, the first round, much like the FA Cup etc. will feature players at the bottom of the ladder - however this is the only protection that the top players will get in this tournament :)

If there are any questions, please leave them as a comment on the page - Whilst I'm happy to respond to aptomails, other people may have the same questions, and it saves me answering them multiple times :)
