Chris Butler

Chris Butler This is worth me re-subscribing for. Hopefully it'll get a few takers....

Matthew Tassier

Matthew Tassier Will be good to have you back. There'll be another Weakest Link numbers tournament in the new year too Chris.

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre Eh, I'll be fodder, but why not. I'm inspired by the excellent news in the above comment.

Sean Fletcher

Sean Fletcher I'm half tempted to withdraw now...

Chris Butler

Chris Butler Cheers Matthew, competition has become a lot stronger since I entered, eek!

Ben Andrews

Ben Andrews 17 is an awkward number - possibilities that come to mind include adding bots to bring the total to either 20 or, perhaps better, 22. What do people think?

Chris Butler

Chris Butler Not really sure why 20 or 22 would be any better. Why not just have 2 players in a qualifying round? (or more if there are late entrants)

Ben Andrews

Ben Andrews I don't know what's generally done around here, that just seemed less fair. The idea behind making it 22 players is to then use the highest scoring loser format in the information. The 11 winners would go through and then the 5 losers with the most maxes.

Chris Butler

Chris Butler Sounds good, best try and coax a few more people into it then...

Chris Butler

Chris Butler 'd have thought that Callum, Jim Bentley and Tony Atkins would be all up for this...

Ben Andrews

Ben Andrews Sign-ups close at 6 p.m. today, and I will then set up the fixtures, which will be random pairings. If there are still an odd number of players Apterous Caesar will be added in too. Good luck!

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre I would just add prune if I were you, or you end up with the possibility Caesar could win the tournament.

Ben Andrews

Ben Andrews I didn't think it would be likely but I suppose it's possible. Ok then, I'lol use Prune instead.

Ben Andrews

Ben Andrews Round 1 will have 22 players, the 11 winners will go through along with the 5 losers with the most maxes. Be aware that this will also decide the seeding for the knockout after this, with the 11 winners being the top and the number of maxes deciding individual positions.

Apterous Caesar will not be able to win the tournament - if it wins in this round it will not go through, the 6th highest maxing loser will go through in its place.

Chris Butler

Chris Butler Sounds good. Can we just clarify what you mean by max before play commences. Do you mean a real max (like if the target is 283 and player gets the best possible 282) or a points max (as apterous regards it, like the above scenario but player declares 280)

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre Surely it's max by the definition of Apterous, so he doesn't have to go over games with a fine toothcomb.

Chris Butler

Chris Butler Also, are the fixtures not automatically created? I mean, I'm in the room now and so is my opponent Sean, but there is no tourney game in my game list

Matthew Tassier

Matthew Tassier Tournament starts tomorrow, Chris

Chris Butler

Chris Butler Oops lol

Ben Andrews

Ben Andrews Sorry for the lack of clarification. I mean maxes by what Apterous considers to be a max.

Ben Andrews Can the games still be played after the end date? I wish I'd put the end date further back now

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre Not officially. With a week to go, I would send everyone a kick up the arse e-mail and tell them they'll be booted out if they don't sort their shit out. Don't change your times to suit the players, make the players follow the rules they signed up for :)

Ben Andrews

Ben Andrews Noted, although I probably won't be quite so hostile.

Ben Andrews

Ben Andrews This round will end at 9pm tomorrow and then the fixtures for round 2 will be set up.

Ben Andrews

Ben Andrews Due to a lot of last minute game organisation by aptomail I will start round 2 tomorrow instead, to give everyone until the end of today to play their games.

Tourney round: Octonumbers Tournament: Round 1

Round 2 >>

Notes from the organizer: A tournament in one of my favourite numbers game variations, the Octorock numbers game.

If the number of players is awkward, a highest scoring loser format is planned, so in this round all the winners will advance and so will the losing players who got the most maxes in their games (the raw score will then be used as a tiebreak if maxes are tied) to bring the number of players remaining to a power of 2.

Good luck to all!
