Jack Worsley

Jack Worsley Hmm, for some reason this seems to be listed as happening before the previous one and I can't enter any fixtures.

Zarte Siempre

Zarte Siempre Because it's awaiting approval Jack. You don't have a tourney license.

Jack Worsley

Jack Worsley Thought it might be that, cheers Zarte!

Jack Worsley

Jack Worsley The draw has been made and all of the fixtures are now up. You've got a month to play them but I would appreciate it if you played them ASAP. If you need to arrange a time with your opponent via aptomail, then please include me in the conversation. That way, I can get a better idea of who's made the most effort, in case it doesn't get played in time. Good luck!

Jon Stitcher

Jon Stitcher Ooh, loving my draw!

Jack Worsley

Jack Worsley IMPORTANT NOTICE, PLEASE READ:
Even though this is best of 2, the tie between Mark and John went to three games for some reason, possibly because the first game was drawn but I'm not sure. If your tie goes to a third game, then only the first two will count. You can still play the third if you wish but feel free to ignore it if it happens.

Rhys Benjamin

Rhys Benjamin I had the same problem in my Cricketdown tourney. The tourney system will want an out-and-out winner, so will not accept the fixture as over if it's 1-1 - or indeed, if one of the two matches is drawn - after two games each, and therefore forces a third, as if it's best of three.

Jack Worsley

Jack Worsley Rhys, see Brett v Julia in your tourney. One of those games was drawn and yet it still didn't generate a third game. There are also cases where players win one game each and it doesn't go to a third but in some cases it does. This is really confusing and I'll probably file a ticket later.

Rhys Benjamin

Rhys Benjamin That is because I manually got rid of the third games the system threw up.

Jack Worsley

Jack Worsley If any fixture needs to be decided by a single conundrum (level on aggregate and away goals, with only rounds won counted as goals), then I would prefer you to set up a single conundrum. If you want to play the the meaningless third game for whatever reason, I don't mind if you use the conundrum in that game to decide the outcome of the tie. However, both players MUST agree to this beforehand in this situation. I hope I can trust everyone to be honest about what they agreed on. Remember to aptomail me the link to the single conundrum if that's the method you prefer.

Jack Worsley

Jack Worsley Just over a week in and already 11 of 19 games have been played. Fantastic so far, hopefully the remaining eight games can be played sooner rather than later.

Ian Volante

Ian Volante Jack, do we have a winner in my tie with Dave? We aren't sure.

Jack Worsley

Jack Worsley Ah, I was wondering how long it would take to go to away goals. Remember, only won rounds count as goals. Ian won 4-2 at home, Dave won 3-1 at home, making it level on aggregate but Dave goes through having won one more round in his away leg.

Jack Worsley

Jack Worsley If we'd gone strictly with winners scoring, Ian would have gone through on away goals but I have stated that only won rounds count as goals, not drawn rounds. Apologies if this has caused any confusion but I just think it's a more logical way to approach it.

Dave Nicholson

Dave Nicholson Thank you for clarifying Jack, that was how I had interpreted it but wasn't 100% sure.

Jack Worsley

Jack Worsley Another game decided on away goals. Brett edges past Jason after losing 3-1 at home but winning 5-3 away. Please get your games played quickly, you've got just over two weeks left.

Jack Worsley Lloyd narrowly defeats Mark, even though it shows that Mark has won, due to the third game being played.

Tourney round: Apterous Champions League: Play-off Round

Qualifying Round >>

Notes from the organizer: I've decided to create a new round for this as I wanted to change one or two things from the old one, namely the dates and to the best-of-2 format. Some of you will be exempt from this, depending on your pro rank on Monday 18th August but most of you will face a two-legged tie against someone else to decide who goes through to the group stage. Remember that winners scoring is used and whoever accumulates the most points over the two legs will win. In the event of a tie, whoever scores the most in their away leg (as player 2) will advance. Remember this rule and be wary that only rounds you actually win will count as “goals”, even though in winners scoring you get awarded points just for equalling your opponent. Remember that if it's still level after away goals, a single conundrum will decide the winner. I'm hoping you can work out the winner between you but if you're not sure, it's probably best just to play one anyway and aptomail me the link in case it's needed.

For the numbers rounds, it's probably worth declaring something, even if you're more than ten away, as winners scoring allows you the point no matter how far away you are, provided you're at least as close as your opponent. Even if you declare nothing, it will still win you the point if your opponent declares something and gets it wrong, as seen here. http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=1300996

The play-off draw will be seeded and will take place pretty much as soon as the pro ranks are released. You'll be divided into first and second seeds and those involved could face anyone of the opposite seeding.

Good luck everyone and please play your games! Anyone who takes too long will have to play their game with Andy Townsend commentary.

Ran from: 18 August – 19 September 2014. Format: Champions League. Matches: Best-of-2. Approved.

Organizers: Jack Worsley.

Fixtures: 18. Completed: 18.
