Anoush Khachik North West
Sean D Ireland, The Celtic Nations, Europe or Rest of the World

Conor Travers Ireland.
Johnny Canuck CA-NA-DA!
Andy Platt OK well that worked
George Ford hahahahahaha
Heather Styles Names don't get much more Kentish than Conor Travers and Johnny Canuck, surely?
Andy Platt Could sneak Conor into South East team after some Facebook stalking,if he is ok with it. Not sure on Canada tho..
Jon Stitcher Canada has a town called London, Ontario.
Sean D Hands off Paddy Guinness Leprechaun O'Travers.
Johnny Canuck Jon Stitcher: And doesn't London have a building called One Canada Square, too?
George Ford can I pretend to live next to conor travers or is that cheating
Chris Marshall Do you live near Halifax, Novascotia Johnny? You'd fit perfectly into West Yorkshire.
Johnny Canuck In fact, I lived in London, Ontario for a few years so you can definitely stick me on the London team.
Frank Jones I could do SE/kent or London (bromley)
James Bradley west midlands
Andy Platt I'll have to see if this makes it to 40, when we can have 5 per team. It looks very well like this might be the case.
Tom Rowell Leicester | |
Andy Platt Two more please
Matt Conway East midlands/Notts
Andy Platt Do you fancy relocating to Brighton in the next day or two?
Matt Conway I'll relocate to Canada, that's it.

Dave Noble London is fine
Amie Bateen Surrey/South East for me
Sean Fletcher Currently in Shropshire but moving to Bournemouth in middle of September
Shaun Hogg North West. | |
Andy Platt Might have to keep you guys as reserves now we've hit 40 unfortunately.
Sean Fletcher No worries
Andy Platt Right, will probably get this started tonight or tomorrow.
Jon Stitcher Who's in what region then?
Jack Worsley If you want to start earlier than the date you've entered, the fixtures won't be generated until that date, so you may have to ask Charlie to change it, just in case you weren't aware.
Andy Platt Oh yeah. | |
Kieran Bray Hope this doesn't hinder anything but just to let you know, I won't be back online now until Sept 6th
Zarte Siempre It's the 1st now...
Andy Platt I'll have to sort this out Tues evening :(
Adam Finlay No problem Andy, just tell us when you're ready :)
Andy Platt Draw in about 30-40 min in main chat? :)
Jack Worsley Sounds cool.
Andy Platt Draw up. Will work on inputting the fixtures and also work on the handicap system.
| |
Marcus Hares Great mix of teams - good work AP! On balance, I think the early favourites might be West Midlands & Wales but with the handicap system the winner could come from anywhere - excited to see how this goes!
Jon Stitcher I was about to post that exact same thing Marcus!
| |
Andy Platt OK, hugely underestimated the work involved here.
| |
George Ford PRAISE YOU ANDY PLATT !!!!! well done !!!!!!!!!!!! great job :D !!!! yay !!! treasure to community :)
Andy Platt Added first QF fixtures, with information about who has what handicap advantage. Flat might not have been the best word to use, but that just means you play it as normal and ignore any potential handicap, rather than it referring to the lesser-used scoring variant.
Callum Todd What George said.
Andy Platt Alright, finished faster tonight thanks to some nifty handiwork with Excel.
| |
Andy Platt The second and third team fixtures are incorrect, that was just lazy copying and pasting. I'm sure you can work it out.
Andy Platt Er, third and fourth.
Andy Platt One note by the way is that a couple of games saw one player have a higher rating and the other player have a higher max average. These games have been declared as flat just for the sake of simplicity, if one of your games is amongst these and you don't think it's fair then grab me in private (oo err) and I'll see what I can do.
Andy Platt If a game is tied after handicap is factored in then I'm happy to call it a tie. I'll also call any 'flat' games that go to a tie-break conundrum as such.
Andy Platt 40 games played of 100, not sure what that is as a percentage but it's good progress guys nice one. A few players haven't played a single game, but there's plenty of time.
Andy Platt Whoa, we're half way there.
Jon Stitcher Whooaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Livin' on a prayer
Adam Finlay Take my hand and we'll make it I swea-ar
Zarte Siempre *takes Adam's hand* Do you promise? *tears up*
Adam Finlay *too busy crying to answer*
Andy Platt On to 69 now. The meal for two with a terrible view.
Alex Fish Hi all, I just moved home and have no internet atm so i'm only able to play from work, weekdays 9-5 normally. Please PM me to liaise if you can do a little earlier / later.
Jon Stitcher I think the North West are through! Well done boys!
Adam Finlay Blame me for that :(
George Ford how is team south/canada doing?
Callum Todd Ee bah gum we've 'ad a reet to-do here cocker.
Andy Platt Thought Yorkshire might be one of the favourites to win, unlucky
Jon Stitcher It's handicapped, hard to have a favourite.
Zubair Patel Some will be more "well in" than others though
Andy Platt With only one week left there are 13 games to play, please ensure these are done. If not, I'll look into who was online most in those fixtures that haven't been decided, or just award ties in those fixtures that have already been decided.
George Ford woo canadaa
George Ford greg hurry up and do your games!!!!!!!!!!!
Giles H I am at uni but I will try!!!!
Andy Platt So I'll update this tonight.
Callum Todd Having a look at some of the results here, looks like you got the handicap formula spot on. It's crazy how close it comes to predicting the winning margin on so many games.
Andy Platt OK, unplayed games are as follows, hopefully this is fairest:
| |
Andy Platt Results here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByvrSuLzbxrSaEpZRGt0NmFqc1k/edit?usp=sharing
| |
Andy Platt I made an error in one game. Possibly more. But here's the real version of events in which Ireland & Scotland defeat Yorkshire narrowly, rather than vice versa. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByvrSuLzbxrSc0tJLWFGNy02Z3c/edit?usp=sharing
Jack Worsley Surely if a game's unplayed, you should award the win to the player who's made most effort, regardless of the handicap. Otherwise, someone who has more than a 50-point head start on another player could win by not turning up.
Andy Platt That's exactly what I did.
Andy Platt Oh I see what you mean now. Nah I meant it's a 50-point walkover win post-handicap.
Show all comments | |
Jack Worsley Ah, OK. Is there any point in setting a margin of victory, though? As far as I can see, margins of victory (post-handicap) aren't important in this tourney, unless I've missed something.
Andy Platt Only if a match is tied 12.5 all, which is pretty unlikely, but I figured best to set a figure in stone just in case.
Andy Platt Semi Finals will be up tomorrow evening, sorry for inconvenience.
Jon Stitcher I'm not inconvenienced
Zubair Patel *high five* Jon. Looks like we're carrying Jack and Andy :) |
Notes from the organizer: Alright:-
- The tournament will be a team knockout, starting with eight teams, and there will be three or four players on each team, depending on interest.
- Players will be divided into teams that are based on region (this is calculated after entries close, to avoid weird numbers).
- When you apply, please post whatever city/county/region/country/whatever you call home - either in the tournament comments, or to me in a private message. This could be where you were born, where you're living now, where you lived when you were a kid - whatever really - but please keep it realistic. I'd really rather the final was not Team Mars vs Team Pineapple under the Sea.
- Each player from each team will play one game against each player from the opposing team in any given fixture. This will mean that there are 16 games per fixture. Players are not allowed to help others during their games.
- Games will be played in the normal format, but there will be a handicap system in place. I will probably use the formula I finished this tournament with: http://www.apterous.org/to_tourney.php?tourney=1224
- The team with the highest score when the match is completed will advance to the next round. In the event of a tie, each team will nominate one player to play one further independent tie-break game to decide the match.
- Each round of fixtures will last one month, meaning the QF stage takes up September, the SF stage October, and the grand final November.
I think that's all. Any other questions please direct them to me or to James Roper. Cheers!
